The Devil Herself

Description
Ellen goes from being a flight attendant to being mistaken for the devil herself.
It all starts locked in a dungeon, a place to meet the best sorts of people, where she saves the life of a psycho cultivator. She never figures out if he’s a hero or a villain, but he’s certainly good at killing people.
He takes a shine to her and teaches her how to cultivate to defend herself. But he’s busy trying to kill his cousins, so Ellen’s cultivation takes some unexpected turns. She becomes a pyromaniac and starts abusing geometry. Eventually, she steals some hellfire, because it’s not hot enough until you melt the walls. Hopefully, the demons won’t miss it.
This story is a slow burn romance between a workaholic and someone who’s dense as a brick. There is a good helping of magic, violence, and sarcasm to keep it interesting along the way.

- slatsauRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I honestly wasn't expecting much going into this. Yet I was blown away by the humor, by the characters, and the attention to detail on different aspects of the novel, from simple things like interacting with different people at different levels of society, or how the household is run, the cultivation side and the brutality and how 'normal' it all is.
This is the stranger in a strange land concept, with a large dash of mystery as to why our main character heals when she should have died many times over, why she can cultivate when her 'body' could not before etc, some slice of life, and cultivation.
I have found it balances all the different aspects really well, including hte romance. It is slow-burn, makes sense, is NOT the main focus of the story, and balanced against all the other aspects the novel is exploring.
Highly recommend reading this, I've had an aboslute blast binging it, and am sad there is no Patreon or more chapters. Very excited to read more! - Tanner_1000Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this to be a fun, easy read that’s perfect for killing boredom. Watching Ellen go from an ordinary life to dangerous, chaotic magic was entertaining and a bit wild. I liked the humor, action, and slow romance, which kept things interesting without ever feeling too heavy.
What really stood out to me was how simple and refreshing the story felt. It doesn’t try to overcomplicate things, and the sarcasm and magic made it easy to keep reading and enjoy the ride. - philphyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Quality consistently good and the world building is quite well done.
The author also understands the meaning of show not tell and does a very good job of story crafting.
MC is aware that she does not know everything and this is well integrated with the world building.
This story is worth your investment in time and I am looking forward for more. - BardkinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Isekai, cultivation, Xianxia in a funny, quirky, enjoyable package. Because not everyone who gets Isekai’d needs to immediately go full murder hobo. Some people wait until they reinvent an entire branch of cultivation Magic. The characters are fun and the jumps between different POVs makes for good suspense and comedy. Think Downn Abby meets Cradle meets Fullmetal Alchemist (the good one).
- Catman161650Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a wonderful, earthy look at the life of a person who is transmigrated into a cultivation world without being the biggest fish. Our protagonist still gets caught up in all the usual cultivation plot lines, but with an outsider’s place in each. It feels much more grounded, and there is little in the way of OP protagonist hacks.
- MecanimusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the story of someone who rises thanks to the power of math and accounting. Ellen is a protagonist who doesn’t punch people. Rather, she has a stable of interesting secondary character to do it for her while she handles support and logistics. The romance is simple and sweet between adults capable of communicating. She also respects the complicated social codes ruling an ancient China inspired society, making the world more vibrant, believable and the MC appear more competent, as she adapts to her new circumstances.
All in all an extremely pleasant read that reminds me of Tori transmigrated before it started focusing on the romance part. - MisplacerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is exactly what I want out of a story about someone being sent somewhere else, where they apply the knowledge of our world to help themselves. The writing is fantastic and I wish I was smart enough to wax about it's themes but sadly I am not critical enough to identify any.
Hope she and her other earth sent have enough knowledge between them to make a proper battery. - CKJ5Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Disclaimer: This review is based on the first chapter and may not reflect the story as a whole.
The Devil Herself is described as a portal fantasy isekai featuring martial arts, romance, comedy elements, and a female lead.
The story opens with the protagonist, Ellen (?), battered and broken after some kind of conflict. While the opening concept is intriguing, I found it a little jumbled. The protagonist’s thoughts blur her past life as a flight attendant and her current life as a servant, which is a clever narrative choice. However, without context about her character or the world, this can be hard to follow.
The chemistry between Ellen and Jun is a standout and stole the chapter for me. That said, Jun’s acceptance of Ellen’s confusion felt a bit too convenient. When Ellen dropped phrases like “flight attendant,” it seemed odd that Jun didn’t ask more questions. Despite this, their dynamic is engaging and full of potential.
Grammatically, the chapter is polished, with no noticeable errors. Stylistically, there are a few areas to consider. For instance, the protagonist sometimes thinks and then says the same thing, creating a sense of redundancy. Additionally, her inner thoughts occasionally make the scenes feel overly busy, which slightly detracts from the flow.
Overall:
The Devil Herself sets up an intriguing story with strong character interaction and a compelling premise. The chapter raises plenty of questions and piques curiosity about what’s to come. - SaintJoe303Royal Road★★★★ 4.0A very cool idea, the points of view switch to first person pov from the gentleman and the MC. It's a refreshing take on a new story that doesn't stick to 3rd person like I'm used to.
I would love more action. I got tired of reading about a girl nursing wounds in a bed while the cool guys went out and did work.
Still well written and a cool idea. - DrAltRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The opening was grand with a non-standard isekai and gradual recovery into accepting the new world. Then, when the MC recovers, the story gradually veers off into wish-fulfillment territory. I found the opening hook done well.
The story then goes hard into the 'artificial stupidity' trope, where cultivators don't know basic math, the existence of oxygen in the air, or simple accounting. Because the inserted MC had a high school education, she is a genius!
Expect our MC to solve hundreds-of-years-old formations with basic geometry and be the absolute best party hostess because she was once a stewardess. I ended up skimming the last 20ish chapters to see if the cultivators could do anything better than the MC, but the MC takes over.
Would recommend if you enjoy a cozy story where the MC always wins.
