The Demon's Hostage

Description
In ancient times, demons were the apex predators of the world—unmatched in strength, far wiser and more cunning than the wisest of sages. With their overwhelming power, they seemed destined to rule all creation. However, as the mortal races came to learn, the demons held a fatal flaw: they could not work together. Their pride and insatiable desire for control led them to constantly undermine one another. Armed with this knowledge, the united races of elves, humans, dwarves, and others, began to plot.
Amidst the endless wars, a hero was born, uniting these forces with one purpose; to vanquish the demons. One demon fell after another, victory seemed so close, and as the forces of the elves led by the hero came to claim its final target, something unforeseen happened. The hero lost his own life on that day. A forest was turned into a graveyard of elves.
Yet the demon survived, weakened, but alive.
Now, centuries later, in a world of relative peace, few remember the dark times. The armies of the mortal races have long been disbanded, and while troubles arise, none have been as devastating as the age of demons. In these tranquil times, talents of all kinds emerge, and one such prodigy is Alice, a young woman of elven descent, born with a natural affinity for ice and wind magic. Her mastery over these elements was unmatched, and her talents quickly garnered the attention of all the races. Her kind heart drove her to seek knowledge not just for herself, but to better the lives of those around her. The gods themselves took notice of her selflessness, bestowing upon her a portion of their divine power as a mark of their favor.
On one particularly bright and sunny day, Alice embarked on a journey deep into the heart of an ancient forest, where the air was thick with the scent of earth and the trees stood tall and wise. She sought a rare herb, rumored to grow only in the darkest, most secluded corners of the woods. Unafraid Alice ventured deeper, yet unbeknownst to her, a creature of immense malevolence watched from the shadows. The last surviving demon, drawn by the purity of her aura, stalked her movements with a growing hunger. For centuries it had waited for an opportunity like this—a chance to corrupt, consume, and destroy.
Would her magic and wits be enough to survive? Would the demon's insidious hunger be her undoing? Or would something unforeseen bloom from their deep-seated hatred for each other.

- TheBBBRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5In the first chapter, the author manages to cast me towards Alice, an elven girl, with strength and grace but also with fragility traits. While immersing themselves in the text, I am captivated by the rich details of the forest and Alice's bond with nature. The suspense amps up almost immediately during an encounter with a ghostly figure, which also raises some mystery. The scene now is rather stark, with Alice and the demon poised for an on screen clash. The fact that those two characters are constantly fighting, only enhances the impressive art of worldbuilding.
Then, my sympathy can also go towards Alice who is struggling against the torment in her mind because of her imprisonment while the demon is also the other side of the coin, portraying violence but having a strange tenderness which is quite a good draw. There is enough information incorporated that makes the characters come alive while not letting the story lose pace and flow, something constantly in the fantasy genre and quite an appealing view as well. It will be interesting to see how Alice survives the broken ties and the bond with the wretched beast who calls himself a demon.
