- Axel ShadeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It keeps you guessing at times and I really love the world building and the social developments. The main character is warming up to the female main character. I am looking forward to more of their relationship developments and hopefully they will be able to do things freely and have many more adventures.
- CathrixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nothing of course!
Style
The style feels like it is truly portraying a city turned farm boy that happens to be raising an alien creature. It is really smooth and the blend of flashbacks and dialogue makes the exposition feel very real. The contemporary world really serves to make the presence of an alien all the more interesting. Creating a feeling like this is something that isnt too far from actually happening.
Character
Adam is a fantastic character, a very complicated and deep backstory that sets itself up perfectly for a first-contact scenario. The development of Eve also shows that she is no mere alien, perfectly set up for the crazy stuff that the story seems to be foreshadowing.
Grammar
The grammar is very neat and the prose makes it very easy to read and understand. The dialogue flows smoothly and highlights the meaning behind the character's actions.
Story
A clever blend of healing, growth, evolution and good ol' country living. So far the story delivers most everything that you'd expect from the title. Future plot points and conflicts seem to be alluded to, giving an insight into the wider story while taking time to build up its core characters. - HumbleThomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are many reasons I might have given this a lower rating. While I enjoy a work with erotic content, that will often come with reasons to lower the rating, so I normally approach rating such works with caution. In fact, I don't rate a lot of works because I don't rate anything if I won't rate it highly. And this work has a lot of features that I would normally mark points down for. But... they're done deliberately, with care, and they add to the essence of the story. This romance is a horror story. This horror story is a romance. I don't mean that this story has both elements of romance and horror, I mean that the romance elements are horror, and the horror elements are romance. So, enter with caution. This is not a healthy relationship. This is not a clean good-vs-evil story. It's also not grimdark - it's bordering on grim, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel.Style: JJKandy avoids the style flaws common to web novels, which would put this at 4.5. To get to 5 for me, it needs something extra. And that extra in this work is that each book has a slightly different genre and tone.Grammar: This is an automatic 5 unless there are notable flaws. I don't expect perfection or transcendence on a webnovel. As long as the spelling and grammar don't pull me out of the story, it gets a 5. And this one counts.Character: I don't hate any of the characters. I don't think anyone is acting in an unbelievable fashion. The villains of the story are all acting according to very rational interests - I would probably make the same choices. The weakest character is the protagonist, who makes some irrational choices. That's not an accident, that's plot, and it's justified by the rather extreme emotional roller-coaster he's on.Story: Refer to the first paragraph. This isn't genre mashing. This is a true blend of genres. I don't know that this is original, but I have never seen this particular blend before, and I read a lot. Anything can become horror if you shine a bright enough
- KhaosZeroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story feels like a bit of a slow burn, taking a slower pace then the stories I normally read. I would like it more with less of the time skips. Feel it could have leaned more into the slow pacing. The story is an interesting one and I quite like the pop culture references mixed into the story.
Adam is quite the intriguing character. We begin by learning about his struggles and we are introduced to him slowly as the story progresses. Other than that the other characters are the alien and MC grandparents. Alien is quite the surprising character, and one I find quite intriguing. The alien does not suddenly become friendly and it takes time (and exploiting its preferences and likes) to win it over.
I quite like the relationship between Adam and the alien, even from the start. It doesn’t feel too forced (even if adopting an alien is crazy). I’m glad the relationship deepens slowly and doesn’t get speed through too quickly. I also quite like the older MC here. Makes for a more interesting story with this type of theme.
I do find their relationship at a core to be intriguing. Their relation to each other is kind of like a symbiotic relation to each other.
Eve is definitely my favorite character, no contest. Her cuteness must be protected. She reminds me a bit of child Nezuko from demon slayer, idk why though. - Nexte100Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loved this story! Starts off with lots of feels and excellent characterization, despite one of the MCs being a non-human ball of protoplasm (or whatever). Story takes a massive turn later with Eve's evolution, and I love how touching Adam and Eve are with one another. I have gotten halfway through book 3 (3.15) and I will say the story is in a bit of a lull as the characters wait around for another big bad guy to show up so they can pounce on it. Hopefully it'll bring back some of those twists and turns from the earlier chapters. Either way, this one is fantastic and I'm in for the long haul.
- wathmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This turned out much better than I expected and was happy to have discovered it on the site. It is by no means perfect, and will not suit many tastes, but it focuses on what works well and does not try to check every box like some of what passes as mainstream content on here.
There is not a whole lot of action, gunfights, or explosions which is a big draw for some stories. Instead we have a character driven relationship story that is involved and evolving, revealing more about the main characters as they grow. One of the main weaknesses is that the relationship overshadows nearly all of the supporting characters and could use some expansion in that area.
The rest of my criticisms are fairly minor and situational, like Adam just accepting he will likely never see or communicate with his grandparents again, and doesn’t even think to ask for a final message to them so they won’t think he disappeared without a trace, was killed, or hauled off with Eve to some government black site. Other than saying they are alive and back on the farm Adam really seems disinterested in their wellbeing despite the very apparent battle on their land that is somehow all fine now with no proper explanation.
Regardless, I’m invested in the story now and looking forward to character developments and adventures the story is delivering. - CastleBravoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is very well written and the characters are developing well. The problem for me is the direction the MC takes. Too much detail would involve spoilers, but let's just say I'd have pretty much the opposite reaction he had to some uber-powerful alien who shifted into my physical ideal. I apparently am rather more pragmatic than the MC, and I don't like the way I anticipate this story going. That's 100% my personal preference, as it is overall very well executed.
- HaranadorRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story begins with Adam, an emergency medtech suffering from severe PTSD after witnessing a horrific scene. When a strange rock from space crashes into the woods behind his grandparents’ farm, he discovers and adopts the small alien blob that emerges from it. Through the new dynamic between Adam, the alien, and his grandparents - who truly serve as the emotional backbone of the story - we slowly watch Adam heal and rediscover joy in life. It’s heartfelt in that “found family” kind of way, and I genuinely grew to care about these characters. They felt real.
Then, somehow, it all falls apart. Suddenly, we’re in space. Adam is told he can’t return to Earth, and the black-ops science division of a galactic empire offers him a job as handler for the adorable alien, who, it turns out, might as well be The Thing crossed with the Tyranid Hive Mind. You’d think that a man who loves his grandparents and deeply distrusts authority would at least protest or try to send them a message - but his reaction is basically, “Oh no! Anyway…”
That sort of flip-flopping happens a lot. The story constantly brushes past situations with serious moral/emotional implications or just basic logic, simply because the plot demands it. For instance, Adam is portrayed as genre-savvy, he frequently compares his situation to pop culture like Alien and Jurassic Park, yet when it comes to genuinely critical moments, he accepts everything at face value. He demands that the only weapon capable of stopping the extinction-level threat he is emotionally compromised by should be exclusive to him, yet never questions whether the other party can be trusted to even honour that. Or how they even got in this situation in the first place, since baby Cthulhu apparently can't be harmed without him getting her consent.
Even if you can forgive the uneven plotting, the romance struggles to feel authentic. Disagreements arise inconsistently, issues ignored before suddenly cause friction, while previously significant o - lixaxilRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It's OK I guess, dropped it at a 2nd pokemon capture (don't want to spoil but you will know after reading). The chapters are choke full of emotional text which becomes very hard to read since it's kinda same-ish so I just started skimming those parts. After a while I noticed I skipped around 40% of an entire chapter and called it a day. The MC is dreadfully boring normie lacking any meaningful ego. The book really needs some world building, POVs chapters and some more real story or plot. Doesn't help that it's extremely similar to another book about void princess, either one of these copied the other or the authors somehow have the same kinks.
- DrevartRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It is a very middling book for me. I enfoyed some parts greatly (I'm a huge fan of unusual romance like here). But it was too quick for my taste. And it was a bit... Standard in terms of problems the character faced.
In short, a good work that some people will like, but I've just read roo much already
