Description

The greatest cozy-adjacent, reverse-isekai, satirical fantasy, modern-day magic shenaniganesque, gamelit-inspired, fish-out-of-water portal fantasy, with a twist of romance, and boss battles that take place in board rooms, slice of fun book you will ever read!

The Dark Lord's Guide to Hostile Corporate Takeoveris live on Amazon.

Dark Lord Morthisal Ebonwrath, Master of the Abyss, is moments away from losing his dark fortress and head to a hero's assault. He uses his last bit of magic to escape death—only to end up trapped in the mundane body of Vince Logan, an ordinary guy from modern-day Seattle. Stripped of his powers, Morthisal wakes up disoriented in a world full of strange contraptions, surrounded by people in white coats who think his cries for dominion over death are just signs of a "mental episode."

With no dark magic, Morthisal must navigate the bewildering modern world of insurance co-pays, office cubicles, and frustratingly useless minions (otherwise known as co-workers). Between run-ins with technology and misunderstandings of modern customs, he realizes that he may be able to access some of his former powers, but at a very painful price.

Dark fantasy meets corporate satire, in a story where office politics and dark sorcery clash—one baffling day at a time.

This is the companion novel to theDark Lord's Last Callseries - It can be read with no knowledge of the other books

I'll leave a more thorough advanced review when I've gotten a bit farther, but for those of you looking for thanksgiving reads, this is fun. The humor reminds me a bit of Starter Villain. Premise is interesting and well-executed. It looks like there's an editor involved so you won't get the sort of typos that are typical of RR (no shade, I include mine in the typo-ridden bucket. However, it's a treat to encounter a book here without them.) I added it to my pile.

This is a very early review, but hear me out. This story is a spin off from their other story, - This is the story about the dark lord landing on Earth, taking our Iseki'd friends place. He has to survive and navigate the corporate world, arguably just as if not more evil than raising the dead. This authors other writing is great, and I can see great things in the future for this story. I hope to see it go long and far... And maybe link up with the other story? Maybe. While I don't know for sure that this would happen, or that it would be good - I think it would have to be extraordinary circumstances - But it's a fun thought.
At this point only 3 chapters have been posted - It's very new still. But the skill of the writing is showing through with every sentence and paragraph, and the magic of the magicless world seems a bit spooky for our antihero. Will he get his powers back? Will he swap his powers for the ability to control machines? Will he figure out how to make Ativan? I look forward to finding out.
Good Luck as you continue writing, I'm looking forward to what comes next.

This story is great, it is fun and it made me burst out in chuckle quite a few times. Is there some great overachieving plot? No, at least so far but it is hilarious, the setting is funny and that is enough to keep me hooked. But don’t take my word for it give a try.
if you won’t like the first 10 chapters, you should probably find something else, this humor might not be for you. The tone won’t change all that much.

What a great book. Much funnier and relatable than the mirror work the author has written. I cook, open Inn, and preach tolerance... super. Did you battle cubicle life and the temptation of unhealthy convenience snacks? No? Then gtfo.
The MC is extremely well written. Not agape at every modern convenience. Rolls with the situation while still fumbling through.
Only thing I didn't like was how the girl was so extreme in every reaction. You know the girl. Love you. Hate you. Love you. Who are you? Hate you. Have some damn middle ground, lady!! Also felt the slips where the MC would reference something in his past got stale and was contrary to his intellect.
But an absolute gem of a tale regardless.
Short some words... hmm. Read the mirror story and while interesting, it doesn't have the same momentum. It meanders slowly and, unless you really love cooking, there isn't a parallel between them. The stakes there feel much smaller.
Still short words. Damn. Side characters are a bit strange. Didn't see the point of Jackson or the lady from his previous dimension, but Willow, Ronny, and the nurse with the African-American name (Tevarious?) all added humor and plot points. Wish Willow was used a bit more as she was remarkably adept.

This is  a great read.  The opening hospital thing was so close to what my family experienced I coudln't help but laugh along.  It's hard to hate a villainous lead who suffers like the rest of us, but keeps his wits about him, even if "about him" is a nebulous term.
Give this book shot.  It's worth time and will bring a smile to your face.
The style is easy to read and flows well.  I spent 3 hours looking for books that didn't have an AI feel to them.   There's none of the nonsensical words from nowhere that mean nothing, and the authors voice comes through clearly and authentically.  Paragraphs break frequently for an easy read.
Grammar is cleanly done and never distracts.  I don't remember seeing any mistakes.   Kudos to whoever edited this.
As noted before, you will love the main character.  He so believable and, yes, pitiable.  The side characters pop in out just like the NPC's of your normal day should you listen carefully.  You can tell they have their own lives, goals and ambitions.
Perhaps the only complaint is that I accidentally started at chapter two due to how its set up in Royal Road.  But, even the,  The story is tight enough that I didn't I realize I missed something until later.

Hands down one of the best stories out right now for slice of life fans! It’s not an adventure or a thrill ride, it’s a hoot! The idea of a The Big Evil navigating modern day shenanigans was already amusing, but the fact that we get a bit of the grinch’s heart growing vibes in these last few chapters has me tickled pink! It’s hilarious and also strangely relatable because we all have a little dark lord inside who wants to dramatically induce destruction into the lives of those who oppose us. I try to wait for a few chapters to build up between each read, but it’s such a pick-me-up that I don’t always manage it. Can’t wait for the next installment!

. "A dark lord does not waste time on social media."
A Dark Lord bereft of most of his powers in our world having to deal with iPhones, spreadsheets and earning money. Love it. Actually getting quite fond of the dark lord and his villainous dialogue. Worth a read......or else

This is a hilarious and absolutely great read. I got introduced to this by author’s book which is a normal isekai story which is well written too. But this one is funnier and even better than the other one. In this book Morthisal who was the dark lord gets transported to earth into the body of Vincent Logan. if you have read reborn as Reborn as Dark Lord , maybe like me this would be a vicious and grim dark book, but to the contrary this is a really funny watching an ex-dark lord trying to figure his way out. At this point I am more vested in this story.

This has been an absolute delight,  beautifully written and so much fun that i find myself laughing aloud.
Writing, dialouge, grammar, worldbuilding, characters, and their development are all extremely good, I'm honestly shocked i hadn't found this story until now,  stayed up until 11 on a work night to binge it.
