Book One is done, and I was a fan but I wish I had waited for this version. The changes seem small, but I have found the reading experience to be much smoother and the character more believable - I mean as far as an MC with split personalities and outsiders in his head can be.
I've read the first 7 chapters of the rewrite (and all of the rough draft) and they are coming out pretty quickly, but I will probably binge once it is done. I'll change this then if necessary.

what a fun take on litrpg. The character is fun to follow in a dark, warped  world. I love the story, love the world, and the system. All 5 stars in my book.

This was promised as an edit, but it is starting to feel like a complete rewrite. I've been a fan since original only had a few chapters, but comparing these I have to say the writer has really honed his craft over the last few months. I can't believe it's been such a short time! He's already given us a complete book, and honestly I wish he'd just move into book 2 but these updated chapters are worth reading even if you've read the original.
I haven't noticed any story changes, execpt for a few minor things with a certain spider, but the writing, tension and pacing are all superior and the little nods and foreshadowing for things I know happen later are an enjoyable additon. Hammbody, please keep going and I can't wait for book 2!

Eldritch Night is a good read, you can't go wrong. There is no lack of LitRPG books, and even a few really good ones, but this one fills a niche that feels unique. It's not unlike Randidly or New World, but it seems less focused on the leveling mechanics and more on the characters and world. It's not perfect, but is well written. I also like that the author is open to input and actually fixes stuff that is pointed out to him.
Full disclosure: I stopped reading the original when he announced a rewrite so I haven't read all the way to the end.

I think it was after he made the pact with that bird that the whole thing slowed down to an extreme degree. It might not have been a permanent thing, but it was more than enough to make me quit this novel.
This was an good read for the first part. Interesting characters, a quaint system to look at, and a style that didn't let anything get old too quickly. And... then it got old, Took a bit of time, yes, but I honestly couldn't move past it. Others have said good things about this novel so it might just be me being a pessimist. Who knows
4/5.

I binge read up to chapter 39 before dropping this. Overall the story isn't bad but it just doesn't feel cohesive and fleshed out.
The biggest issue up to the point I read is the motivations of the MC are not consistent and don't make sense. A lot of it is forced by the author as well because the MC is supposed to be slightly insane because of eldritch energy.
MC escapes from a dungeon and is offered a chance to train with someone incredibly powerful but denies it to find is friends/family. After being completely helpless it's odd that he would deny a chance to quickly grow stronger. This motivation is very quckly thrown to the side as the MC takes massive risks to gain power as quickly as possible not even days later.
MC knows he has a mental corruption and tries to get the help of a priest to cleanse him of it. It only sort of works and then a day later the MC is bargaining with this mental corruption for gains in power.
The MC being in a relatively safe space has no reason to risk being corrupted by eldritch powers to quickly gain power. He could continue trying to purge it while continuing his previous training.
There are more things to list about the MC but that's enough for now.
Other problems are the lack of fleshing out the changes to the world. The system isn't explored or explained very well. The hegemony and the peacekeepers aren't meaningfully expanded upon despite opporutnities to do so.
Overall the story is focusing around an MC on a mad dash for power despite the consequences or lack of reasons for needed said power while putting himself into situations that are actively detrimental for himself.
Grammar, senteance structor, spelling, chapter length, etch are all fine and consistent with other good stories on RR.
