A billion dollar budget, a million dollar prize. There's everything to win. And everything to lose.
When a stranger puts an audition advert in fame seeking Vicki's pocket, she jumps at the chance and finds herself being cast as the lead in a part scripted, part reality show.
The 13 players are dropped off on an island with towns and cities populated by actors with no instruction on how to win the game. They split up into teams, each with different objectives, and attempt to solve the mystery of how to escape the island with the money.
Soon, people start disappearing and Vicki and her team don't know whether it's part of the show, with none of the production team in sight, only the actors who refuse to break character.
When Vicki starts to question what's real and what's scripted, she realizes that she can trust no one, not even her best friend. Will she be able to figure out how to win before the killer takes her too?

It's about some American twentysomethings who go on a big budget reality show on an island. The relationships between the friends seem complicated and realistic, and the characters have depth. The fact you can vote people out of the book is a great hook. Can't wait to find out what happens on the island when they start finding villages and stuff.

- joygirl007Royal Road★★★★ 3.5This is a tense, atmospheric story about a woman trying to survive among friends and foes in some kind of game show. It's got small town drama vibes, a mysterious stalker, and some thriller setup.
Crown of Snakes is the story for you if you like head games and survival stories that aren't super gorey and torture-y. It's a lot more emotional and involved than basic crime thrillers and the little character details we've got so far keep us guessing exactly where we are and what's going on.
My hope is that the author gets into some of the more thought provoking stuff that goes with competition stories. We know from the prologue already that the “win condition” in this story is not a utopia. What makes a character want to win it all even when it costs her everything?
My one point of critique is to do with formatting. Maybe this is just me, but it’s hard to know who is “speaking” whenever an author types out chat messages from an app into the story as if they’re dialog. It can work, but it requires very careful formatting and consistency. (Only just now got WhatsApp in the mix.)
Can't wait to see where the author takes it in the next few chapters. There's a lot going on under the hood already and it's only chapter 3!
