The Consequences of Meeting a Dragon
Community Rating
Description
Sixteen-year-old Thenio Iterune has a simple plan for his life: Work hard. Do well in school. Become a qualified wizard. Earn a good living. And maybe even make his parents proud of him someday.
Unfortunately, the plan isn't going too well....
Thenio's magic power is becoming increasingly difficult to control, which leads to a series of accidents that are about to cost him his hard-earned spot at the Kafron Royal Academy of Magic. And things don't get any better when he finally discovers the source of his problems: He has an extremely rare and unstable magic affinity. And it's going to do more than just get him expelled. It's probably going to get him killed.
Before he knows it, Thenio has gone from diligent student to disabled dropout. And forget about career plans...he'll be lucky if he even lives long enough to need a job in the first place.
Enter Iggy, a tiny black dragon who loves chasing birds and has a remarkable nose for magic. He takes an immediate liking to the scent of Thenio's unique magic and convinces his wizard partner, Ariom, to help find a way to stabilize it.
Are a genius enchanter and his slightly crazy dragon familiar enough to keep a chronically explosive boy alive? Maybe. But that's before demons get added into the mix....
Updates are irregular at the moment, but I'll get back to a weekly schedule as soon as I can.

- TheWolfWriterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutely adored this book! It felt like a professional wrote it, and I fell like Ryan the Tired should really put this on paper. The characters are phenomenal, the world structure is perfect, and the suspense and mystery adds an excellent touch to the story that makes me want to keep reading!! It was never confusing, and very well written! :)
- Thor AegirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is a really good surprise.
A young teenager with "magical health" issues meet a chicken obsessed dragon. Ensue life-changing revelations and the beginning of healing.
This novel is beautifully done. It is full of emotions, and every major characters have a well thought background story. The main plot seems to be well done, and with many sidetracks waved into the mainline. In addition, it is full of cute smile-inducing moments.
I really loved it, and I hope to see more of it.
Bravo author. I'm rarelly this enthoused. This is one of the best novel i've read on Royal Road. - dragonsisterauRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a well told fantasy story involving characters that have a fair amount of depth. I have been really enjoying the cheerful familiars and the gradual unfolding of character secrets. It is a generally uplifting tale and I have faith that the long-term conclusion will be good.
I note that the author publishes slowly and that there are occasional hints that the world is still developing in their head - most notably around the presence of powerful wizards. The latter would be readily sorted in pre-book-editing. As for the pace of publication - good work is worth the time! - Isa BayfieldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I came to this because of the adorable cover. And I came to the right place!
The main character is such an interesting one, always having felt out of place and being treated as less or strange... until he met a dragon. Then his life turned around for the better. I love this kind of stories.
And there is the very intriguing mistery of the magical abilities of the main character which has to be discovered along the story. Marvellously done.
Well-written, likeable characters, interesting plot, flows really nicely. Rooted for the main protagonist right from the first page. Can hardly wait what is in store for him. Such a good read!
And of course, thank you for creating that loveable little dragon.
I am so amazed by this story, I just had to update my review. The author created such wonderful, touching characters, you feel for them. The story is constantly intriguing, you just have to know what happens next. Each new chapter brings something interesting, adding to the plot,. When a new chapter is released, it always lifts my mood. It's like a ray of sunshine in on a rainy day.
Of all the storys I have read in RR, this is the one I love the most. This just has to be published! And when it has come so, I will buy the hardcover version, too. Have to preserve it for the longest time, you see?
Thank you writing this, I enjoy it very much! - FriendofpastimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is written in such a way that the main character shows exellent depth and you are quickly sucked in/or welcomed to the world of young Thenio.
Grammar and style are solid.
(word filler) always nice to find a well written story early on, Don't rush it and cheerio. (word filler) - hankRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I eagerly look forward to the next chapter. The MC is doomed (die in his late teens or early 20s) unless he other characters can save him. Toss in some non-humans that act non-human in some interesting ways, and we have a great story were we want to see how it turns out.
- prissiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story of Therion and his magic and the mayhem resulting from it has all the marks of a classic in the making. It is emotional at times, it has fighting, it has a full cast of characters and even some mild romance. Since it goes slowly, as it is appropriate for a web serial, the part interlocks properly, very little feels forced. It is a slow start, yes, so if you look for immediate action and fights, no, this is to your story.
This story deserves its position in the top 25 ongoing stories; which is an even larger success as it is not LitRPG and even not Gamelit but just a plain good Fantasy.
The only thing which one could critique is that the portraited world is too close to "our" world just run by magic. The story would work in a slightly less "modern" setting without trains, lifts and message books. That is the only point where I would have wished for improvement, hence only 4.5 for style.
Other than that, the characters are quite different and the main acting persons have their distinct personalities. Rynn The Tired also frequently uses different POV in the same chapter in a way that neither breaks immersion nor leaves the reader confused, i.e. very skillfully.
The grammar is near perfect and the vocabulary larger than most works on RR. 5 stars here too.
I am curious to see where this entertaining story will go next. - LiteratiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Rynn has written a truly exceptional story. It's rich with magic, unique characters, super cute dragons, and beautiful world building. The strongest part of the story is its characterization and the world building is richer and deeper than most stories on RR. It has the comfort of slice of life stories, the intrigue of a progression fantasy and the world building of an epic. Just read the first chapter already!
- KarasaphRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story has a cool protagonist that tells a personal story where the consequences of meeting a dragon turn out very severe. And there will be a lot about Iggy. If you expect huge dragons, you will be disappointed. They are still among the strongest, but small and cute. And Iggy is a joy along with his actions.
The story builds more on the character notes and mysteries about certain characters. The story is leightweight and only introduces new aspects to the story once they become relevant. There is a larger story about the world and history behind it, and the concepts of magic for the world are also well thought out. But the author doesn't manage to give characters different OBVIOUS characteristics, especially in the way they speak. It's hard for me to identify certain characters by the way the speak. Everyone is so friendly to Thenio and thus I would describe it as a slice of life story.
Luckily it makes sense why he gets the treatment that he gets. And the story is interesting and has always some mysteries that keep the story engaging and fun. Of course the interactions of Thenio with various magic beasts are always among my favorite parts of the story and those happen frequently.
After reading 28 Chapters I'm always happy to read two chapters per day. It's a book I'd recommend for 8 years and up. Maybe even perfect for teens, but everyone can enjoy this fun because the story is just so lovely and I want to know how Thenios unique magic will leave an imprint in this world.
TLDR: If you enjoy cute dragons, character interactions with a bit of mystery sprinkled in, this is a story for you. - Randy.OrrRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I absolutely love this story. I can almost picture everything in my head while I read it. A wonderful movie to watch play out in my mind. I can almost feel the hurt, pain, joy and hopefulness of the characters. I happily await each chapter. Please keep them coming!
