《Quintessence anomaly detected, Spirit mutation threshold exceeded, Attribute requirements met. Congratulations. You are eligible to obtain the Skill: Knife-Throwing. Do you accept?》
These were the words Rylan Cloudgift had been waiting to hear all his life.
They were supposed to be his salvation, his escape from a mundane live as an indentured servant on an island in the vast cloudsea. His quick way out of the debt he held to the Thistlethorns—the noble family that had found him as a baby.
So why did he wake up in a cell? Why was there talk of the Thistlethorns binding him in their service through a magical contract?
Seeing no other choice, Rylan flees into the cloudsea, carrying only what supplies he manages to grab on the way out and a mysterious note bearing a cryptic warning...
His quest to find the sender and unravel the mystery of his birth will have to wait, however, for both friend and foe follow him into the fog, and none of them knows the way out.
To make matters worse, the dense mist harbours hidden monstrosities and long-buried secrets. It’s not what they might find—but what might findthem...

- omniknight2008Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is worth your time. Everything from the worldbuilding, to the System, to the characters, the combat, the prose, everything is very good to excellent. The setting is particularly unique, where people live on basically islands surrounded by a fog-like sea called the cloudsea filled with sea-like creatures and monsters, dungeons, secrets, and more. Cannot put this down.
- El PatronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best - if not the best - and original story I read here! A world never seen before, complexe and very interesting. A caracter developpement well done. I recommend!
Just curious why the last 2 chapiter were not published yet. I am gonna cry if this one got to be stopped...
I hope the (great) autor is just taking a litle break! - EteranosMaeveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very good story so far, incredibly made characters that actually feel alive and real, unique world and approach to power system, character growth that makes sense, interesting concepts all around, and the main story which is slowly revealing itself is very promising as well.
Keep up the good work. Would definitly love to buy it as a book. - Graf MagaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, i am Sucker for unusual worlds and the author got me good here. How would a World without oceans but Endless fields of fog Look like? Here you can find your Answer. And as much as i like the Isekai/Portal Storys this is a story about a boy who was Born into this world. Only downside is that the build up for the adventure is a little long for my Taste but i see that it was necessary and patience is not my strong seit so take that with a little bit of Salt. The story has Light litrpg elements which bringt the characters and there effort to get better into the center of attention away from just "numbers go brrr". There ist still much to Explore about the World and the skills/magic that it bringst with it and i am exited to See where this Story goes. Take a Look and See for yourself.
- Sami26Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story so far is good and the writer has great ideas I read a lot of novels and there are predictable plots but the author have new ideas and the system is new and creative the drama is good and now I am gonna fill the word capacity with you and you find me a
- Sloan the JanitorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A solid story, taking you along on an engaging adventure. The moment the story kicks off, the stakes are immediately high, creating a pressure cooker-like environment forcing characters to grow fast in multiple ways. There's always something going on, something to watch out for, keeping you and the cast on their toes as they continue.
The world itself is solid, and evokes questions and curiousity about how it all came to be. I'm also fond of how the RPG element was implemented: it's an inherent part of the world, where Quinthar (mages) do not share its intricacies freely. It also has ties to religion and superstition, turning this system into an organic part of the bigger world.
Characters and their motivations are clear. Rylan is proactive, and willing to go to great lengths to gain his freedom. The conflict this generates with the rest of the cast feel logical and plausible, though it's also quite clear that things are not as black and white as they seem at first. I'm interested to see how this drive will develop and how it will impact his relationship with the rest of the cast.
I have nothing to comment on the grammar and language use, which I see as something good.
All in all the author has managed to (once again) set up an interesting world with intriguing mechanics. There's immediate problems to deal with, there's bigger mysteries playing out in the back, and given the author's track record, I'm sure he'll fare well with taking the readers for quite the ride. - SloopyDoopRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was looking for a new series to start, and this one seems to be ticking a lot of my boxes so far. It has unique characters that feel like they earn their familiarity with each other. It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine when someone just chances upon a found family of very similar people without much distinct yearning or personality, so it’s refreshing to see people earning their friendships.
While initially concerned that everything was just called fog-this and mist-that, it has grown on me and I appreciate the detailed thematic world building that has gone into crafting a world where fog is so important. Very much willing and able to suspend disbelief on this fantasy land.
Now for the most important part, the system! I very enjoy the characters earning their abilities and so far every power up has felt very exciting. Not one of those super numbers go up ones where you end up with millions of strength etc, there’s something sort of special about dealing with very small number increases, as it makes each point precious I think. Clearly some love and thought has gone into weaving this system and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
Plotwise, there’s a lot of action, chase scene type things, and plenty of unsolved mysteries have planted their seeds early in this story so I think it has its hooks in me. I would probably enjoy less chase scenes and Mr. Exposition probably explained a bit too much of how things work, but overall the pacing seems good so far.
highly recommend anyone that enjoyed Mystshaper, Elydes or Road to Transcendence to try this one out. - UmmRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good story, premise, and so on. No issue understanding due to typos, etc (which is a very welcome change from the last one I read).
One of my favorite things about this story is that it doesn't try to leave behind the overall tone that it starts with. Yes there are the necessary changes and developments, but it doesn't try to change into something totally different from the sort of story it was in the beginning. - BlackBaronRedRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A pair of unusual concepts delivered well. The simplest is ranking / cultivation system and the more mind stretching is the setting. The environment is tweaked to not quite be in a tropical sea. I’m finding this new to me perspective to be pleasantly challenging. There is also a plot with mystery (or two) at its heart.
- Vidarr AesirRoyal Road★ 1.0It takes ages for anything to happen. The dialogue feels weird. I don't find the Mc very likeable. The story doesn't come across as very clear on who is wrong early on. Trying to play devils advocate.
