- AurathasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The writing style is concise and clear, you won't be finding yourself confused as to what is going on. Also, and this is a huge plus, you aren't going to run into any status screen spam here. The author has so far chosen to only bring up status screens for new information. Even when attributes go up from leveling up, they only show the relevant part of the status screen rather than the whole thing.
Grammar: I did not notice a single issue with the grammar. Everything flows well, proper punctuation was used, and no spelling errors that I could see.
Story: Very interesting concept with a lot of complexity to the System which provides a lot of room for the story to advance. This story could easily go on for a long time and reach epic confrontations and scale based off of the Multiverse concept. I also liked that the author had a prologue that essentially described how the System came to this particular universe.
Character: The main character reacts in believable ways to the changes in the world, something that I feel that a lot of litRPGs tend to miss. The interaction between the characters is also well done. Additionally, there are characters on the horizon that have a lot of potential for interesting interactions that I am very much looking forward to reading about. - CearRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: For this story, I think the style has worked quite well, there were some issues early on with the author trying to find their style but by now the story has well and truly grown into itself.
Grammar: No serious grammar issues, the occasional spelling mistake every few chapters but overall decent.
Story: I am a sucker for power fantasies and cultivation stories like these so if that is your taste, this story is for you! The story has been fairly consistent in my opinion, sometimes it tried to handle too many plot points/advancement avenues and was forced to abandon them, like with Sam's elemental training or mana manipulation training basically being left to the side, but that was not a huge loss to the story, as it advanced in other ways and focused more on the world-buidling.
Character: Like many stories of this genre, the character's early on tend to be a bit bland. To be fair, this story does not suffer so much from that issue, I think the characters early on have personality, but it is the main character that lacks much of a personal touch until later on. This blandness served as a bit of a strength later on though, because the Daos manipulating his personality became obvious as he was expressing more of his feelings than normal. I do like what the author has done with characters having their personalities influenced by their Daos, and I would just wish they did it with more of the main cast of characters, as the only ones I can think of being affected are the main character, Jacob and the monk. Everyone else seems to be unaffected by their Daos, and I think it would be interesting to explore the logistics of managing a faction of millions of people who struggle against their Daos, maybe some form of Dao mental health service needs to become available xD, just exploring what a society like that would have to deal with sounds fun to me.
Overall: I think this story is great, a cut above the average power fantasy in several regards (even if that is a low bar - DRHudginsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's easy to want to click the next chapter button to keep reading this story. Thankfully the author has provided plenty of chapters to provide that insatiable desire to read more of this apocalyptic litRPG.
Style: Written in third person past tense, it's consistent and good which is better than most. We learn about this intricate new world alongside Sam, and the information is given slowly with just enough to keep you wanting to read more.
Story: This is what you came for! Stats, levels, skills, oh my! There's even a companion that has great potential for some future advancement and interactions. It feels like a really well thought out blend of science fiction and fantasy, enjoyable for fans of both in the best way. There are some similarities with other popular system apocalypse fictions, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all.
Grammar: Very minor errors, if any, to be found.
Character: The MC of the story jumps right into the fray, eager to improve his situation. There are stakes immediately with him needing to protect himself from disaster after a dead end job that further becomes complicated with the addition of the system. He makes the best of his circumstances and is a likeable MC, easy to follow along.
The Boundless Expanse does a lot of things right. If you're looking for a new system apocalypse litRPG to sink your teeth into, look no further! - DarkodiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story masterfully intertwines elements of the mundane and the fantastical, creating a gripping narrative that holds the reader’s attention from start to finish. Sam, a relatable protagonist stuck in the monotony of everyday life, is suddenly thrust into a chaotic and surreal situation when his world is disrupted by an earthquake and a subsequent encounter with the enigmatic Tantalos Veruvax. The author excels in painting a vivid picture of Sam’s confusion and awe during these extraordinary events, skillfully navigating the fine line between reality and fantasy.
The introduction of The Boundless Expanse and the RPG-like system adds an intriguing layer to the story, offering a fresh take on the isekai genre. The mechanics of the system are well-thought-out, and the author does a commendable job of explaining them through Sam’s perspective, making it accessible to readers who may be unfamiliar with RPG terminology. The encounter with the Juvenile Gremlin serves as a practical demonstration of the system in action, showcasing Sam’s potential for growth and development within this new reality.
However, the story does not shy away from darker themes, as evidenced by the grim scene of the gremlins feasting on a human corpse. This moment serves as a crucial turning point for Sam, igniting a determination to become stronger and survive in this perilous world. The decision to allocate his stat points to strength, and the subsequent physical transformation, is both empowering and symbolic of his inner resolve.
In conclusion, the story brilliantly balances elements of adventure, fantasy, and personal growth, creating a captivating narrative that leaves the reader eager for more. The protagonist’s journey from a self-doubting individual to someone embracing their newfound strength and potential is both compelling and inspiring, making for an excellent read. - ElderCarrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The author’s style of writing is solid. He presents everything in a clear and well written manner. His descriptions are detailed and give the reader a beautiful image. He does on occasion use words that the average person won’t understand without context.
Story: The plot is a solid earth is integrated into a leveling system used by the general multiverse story. It’s coherent and well thought out with promise for a greater overarching story and solid lore. Only reason I gave it four and a half stars is that I haven’t really seen any particularly intriguing bits that I haven’t seen before that make it exceptional. There are hints here and there that it could be so I will keep reading and see.
Grammar: The grammar is spot on. I noticed no major grammatical errors and as such, can’t really add more. Even the sentence structure is great. Either the mistakes were so inconsequential I didn’t notice them or they were already corrected. Well done.
Character: The characters are good. The side characters are really interesting but the main character is kind of forgettable. He’s just a random bland dude who lucked into fantastic power and is now coasting along doing whatever anyone tells him to do. His powers sounds interesting, but as a character, nothing really stands out. I want to like him, but I don’t know what kind of personality or quirks he has. He’s just kind of there to hit stuff. - Jackson WilliamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An extremely fun read. I'm always holding my breath in the fight scenes. Sam is that little piece of my childhood brain that said" it could happen". Can't wait for more. Please don't stop! I'm still waiting for Sam to bond to his hammer with the blunt weapon mastery skill he got.
- Uncharted BloodlinesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Boundless Expanse is truly an epic system apocalypse LitRPG. This gem fully deserves its five-star rating. With engaging prose, immersive descriptions, and a captivating storyline, it’s been a highly enjoyable read so far. The characters, especially the relatable protagonist Sam, add depth and heart to the story. The System element is introduced seamlessly, enhancing the excitement.
The writing style (5/5) is incredibly engaging. It drew me into a world filled with infinite potential and endless adventures. The author's vivid descriptions made the scenes come to life, which immersed me in a thrilling narrative.
Grammar (4.9/5) and sentence structure are very good, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable reading experience. There's no stumbling over awkward sentences or noticeable typos here—just pure, immersive storytelling.
The story (5/5) itself is a rollercoaster of excitement and mystery. From the very beginning, I was hooked on Sam’s journey, an ordinary man turned hero, in his quest for purpose in a universe brimming with danger and opportunity. The System introduction is well paced and makes Sam's journey all the more intriguing.
Speaking of characters (5/5), Sam is brilliantly crafted. His relatability and genuine reactions make him a protagonist readers can easily root for. The inclusion of the awesome alien big bad adds layers of humor and tension to the story, promising exciting and unexpected developments.
Overall, The Boundless Expanse offers a thrilling blend of system elements and adventure, all wrapped up in a well-written package. - Wanderer of WorldsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The MC has a clear moral compass, the power system is well explained but still has a lot to discover, and the worldbuilding leaves a lot of open room for the future.
On top of that, the MC is struggeling to control parts of his power, which make it a very engaging read, in my opinion.
You should give it a read if you like a weak to strong, righteous MC, a large world (literal Multiverses) and a interesting power system. - mstephensRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story/Character: Reminds me a lot of Defiance of the Fall, particularly when it comes to the usage of Dao and the leaderboard. But instead of following one hero, we have a trio: Sam, the sad but good-hearted young man, Rax, the talking snake (ahem, herpetopede), and Jeffrey, the centuries-old womanizing chicken from outer space. Given this colorful cast, there's a lot of charm and humor that you won't find in most System Apocalypse novels. In particular, Jeffrey is hilarious.
Style: The author does a great job using dialogue to characterize the three heroes. He also writes action very well, and there's a lot of it! Some of the descriptions get pretty wordy, and the discussion of skills and the System Guide occupies entire chapters. But on the whole, the author writes with a fine, humorous style.
Grammar: There are some typos here and there, but overall, the text is quite readable. The author does a great job of using RR's utilities for displaying the characters' stats, skill branches, and levels. In addition, the skills and level-up abilities are quite impressive and unique.
One minor, frustrating aspect is the occasional shift in point of view. As a reader, it's not easy to keep track of all the characters' stats, skills, and abilities. When one chapter focuses on different people, it's hard to keep everyone straight. - MountainSkaldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
A really great litrpg adventure. It’s dark (which I prefer), but it also offers a broad and intriguing universe to explore. The RPG elements are well handled and add to the story. One stand out scene describes the protagonist’s visceral experience when he applies skill points to his resilience. Very entertaining.
Style:
Very well written. It manages to maintain a dark tone even as the ‘video game’ nature of the world becomes apparent. I was starting to feel some ‘Squid game’ vibes as the story progressed. Despite the arrival of various imaginative monsters, they never become over the top or silly. The violence is frightening and horrifying, which really adds to the stakes and gives the apocalyptic feel a genuine sense of atmosphere.
Grammar:
Excellent. I don’t remember seeing many errors.
Character:
The protagonist starts out as a typical everyman in a dead-end job, which is very relatable. It’s fascinating to see his reaction as he becomes more and more enmeshed in ‘the system’ that begins to take over the universe.
Another star is his first ally, who offers plenty of surprises. A really fascinating character with a lot of depth.
I also enjoyed reading about the villain, who is both evil and, in a way, neutral. Rather it is the system that is evil, and he is just an effective manager of it. This gives him some interesting nuance, and I can’t wait to learn more about his backstory.
Story:
Great story that starts with a compelling hook and builds up the tension gradually. We get to experience a lot of artfully delivered insights into the broader universe, which never get so tedious as to become info dumps. The slow introduction of Sam to the new reality is also well handled. He never becomes too strong too quickly, and his conflicts seem realistic and very tense. Where his character is given a boost, it seems well explained and logical.
