Gan has never truly belongedamong the elite space scavengers of Elluria.Unlike his peers, he has no family, no friends, and no crew to rely on. When graduation day arrives, his classmates are awarded state-of-the-art starships with skilled teams at their command. Gan, however, is given theValtorian—a battered, crewless junker barely fit for space.
Determined to prove he’s more than just an outcast, Gan sets off to make a name for himself. But his journey takes a devastating turn when the ruthless Marau—a hostile alien race—steal theValtorian, forcing him to flee in an escape pod.
Adrift in the vast unknown, Gan encounters something unexpected: a human astronaut stranded aboard a failing space shuttle. Their first meeting doesn’t go well (she shoots at him, after all), but with nowhere else to turn, they form an uneasy alliance to find their way home.
But the Marau aren’t done with Gan yet. Their plans stretch far beyond his stolen ship, and if he and his unlikely ally are to survive, they’ll have to work together.

- AlexanderScottRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Book of Gan starts off with a young graduate getting assigned a starship and a system to scavenge for treasures. He faces numerous challenges and doesn’t get quite the level of ship his peers get, as he’s of a different race, but still the universe is wide open before him and the possibilities are endless!
Im excited to see what happens next because the anticipation and the setup is so strong. Truly, this drives the story along and makes the read fun because I’m eager to see where it might go, and what Gan might find. He’s a classic underdog and therefore, we’re rooting for him right now off the bat.
Well written and fun. Thanks for a great story so far, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!! - JestersGambitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The worldbuilding in this story is great. The council, the prejudice to those with lineage, the tales of the past explorers. In only three chapters the author has managed to grip the reader into a world that feels so big. The author has obviously planned this story out and when it becomes fully fleshed out it will for sure be great at the rate he is going.
Even though I only read three chapters, the conversation between his rather mean classmates was actually enjoyable. Well if it could be called a conversation. Even though the protagonist was getting made fun of I was thinking, 'that joke was pretty good'. However, I like how the author made it so he does have somebody he can sort of depend on despite his circumstances, doesn't make his whole situation as bad.
From the first three chapters I do not see any faults so far! Give this a read for sure! - CadeHuffRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Greg does a good job getting the story off the ground. Unfortunately, hit chapter 31 and I knew what was going to happen.
Now, as a disclaimer, I read/consume about 700-800 or so books a year. One thing I look for is originality and twists that authors come up with. Some are great, some terrible and a few...none at all. The start was good! But it became...formulaic early on(if written by AI, it would explain it). References were to earth, which did not exist, a plot line that was starting to be like a checklist(again, formulaic). There was enough 🤔 moments to pin down a standard plot line and probable betrayal, who did it or who was all involved. Once it was pinned down, I could see where things were going. At that point I had to stop. And that ends the cons of the material read so far.
Pros
Greg, you are doing great. Never let my opinion or those of others ever get you down. You keep at it! Do not take what I said as a bad thing. I have read over 14,000 books in 15 years and have seen just about everything(jaded that is). I was harsh in a comment and I apologize. I was not polite and you did not take it well. I will try to pick it up again in a month and push through my own bias and just enjoy the story.
I have left the comment up in chapter 30 and you are welcome to remove ch 30 & 31 comments or request them to be removed. In good conscience I could not give it higher than a 3 star. - Drlove73Royal Road★ 0.5Loooooong, looooong paragraphs with out anything interesting being said? Check!
"Forbidden" treasure trove of information that you can access without any issues/firewalls and that will not be tracked back to you while you use goverment-provided network? Check!
"Forbidden" graveyard of ships left there but not stripped of anything useful? Without even automated satellite to enforce compliance? Check!
He enters the ancient derelict ship that still has power in consoles and screens? Check!
I managed to read only several chapters and I had enough...
