- SakkaofPiRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story itself is pretty interesting and the world seems well-developed. It moves a little fast for my taste and I wish that I had more time to understand Trunn, Esme and the politics at play here. Which is definitely a compliment. Exploring the magic system and the nature of the gods, provided that they exist and aren't just superstitions, could be a lot of fun.
I felt like Esme acquiesced pretty quickly to Trunn's advances, which I didn't find to be terribly realistic. It could be that she is an opportunist and just accepted that she didn't have much power against this apparently very capable man, but as we saw, she's fully capable of dispatching him. Maybe there could be a prologue that revealed she was scrying on him and knew he was coming. That would give a lot of context for her situation.
I'd also like to see a little more of the God-King character. Maybe go a little more in-depth with his mindset or if we're going to keep him vague, maybe go into more detail about his affect on the people around him. A full flashback of Trunn's tribe dividing into a group of vile, backstabbing monsters, as he implied.
Again, overall, I just want more of the story, of this world. It wasn't bad. Outside of the grammar and formatting issues, that's my complaint.
