Description

The Ravine. A wide gap which tore through the plains of Maur several thousand years ago and has acted as a boundary between the countries of Solar and Tyne. It has been a place of mystery, fear, and to many- a place of potential treasure. Many adventurers have braved its walls and climbed into the maw in hopes of finding glorious rewards, only to never be heard from again.

A young boy, the son of a nobody adventurer, decides that the stories aren't quite enough and wishes to see them for himself. Carrying nothing but a few supplies and his imagination, he descends into the black. But what will he find beneath the surface? Will there be beautiful flowing waters and lush greenery? Crystals worth thousands? Or will it all just be a hoax, a lie, and will he find nothing but stone and darkness.

I'm not the greatest reviewer and its also 3 am as im writing this, so don't get your hopes up.
This story has been a joy to read, in every sense of the word. Jake's development as a character has been super rewarding so far, even so early into the story. The chapters are nice and long, but don't feel like a drag. But most importantly the fight scenes! Magnifique! This story genuinely needs more attention.
Please keep writing Mr UnfortunateMind, I'd hate to see this gem disappear.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, binging through it in a few days. Gives me strong Berserk vibes, and feels like a genuine epic fantasy. Weak to strong, kind MC thrust into an unforgiving gauntlet and forged into a brutal adventurer determined to exterminate enemies, save people, and live a life worth living… a life of adventure. Having the blessings of the spider and dragon goddesses doesn’t hurt, as well as access to a library he can enter using magic that has time dilation and virtually unlimited books.
The MC becomes fairly edgy over time as bad things keep happening, ie character deaths. This book can get quite grimdark at times. Characters that you thought were safe can totally die. Only the MC is safe at this point. To be clear, I love a good antihero MC that has an edgy side, and also… MC is currently 16, so it’s only expected to be like that haha.
    Definitely recommended!

Pretty good story, nothing revolutionizing but its a fun read. Good pacing and character development, decent world building along with a developed magic system. Mc may have some plot armor but he still struggles to get to where he is. Good progression too. Fun swords and magic fantasy read.
    Some criticisms:
    Some events seem rushed.
Can be a bit wordy at times.

Definitely worth a read and deserves more attention. Overall, the story and style are quite a bit above average for RR. I appreciate that the main character actually goes through a reasonable variety of situations, and not everything always goes perfectly. The story does a good job of not relying too heavily on tropes. There's some pretty substantial power scaling, but it is reasonably well explained in the story so it doesn't come off as impossible as it does in many other Royal Road stories.
Grammar is very readable, with a few stray commas here and there which don't negatively impact reading.
Characterization is good and many of the supporting characters actually have character which is a bit unusual for Royal Road. That being said the MC is a bit mixed, overall a good character and exciting to read about, but doesn't really act like a 14 year old. The age doesn't play a huge part in the story so if you just ignore that the MC is very well fleshed out.
I think the story has the potential to really grow into a professional quality work. I also appreciate the clear improvement on the authors part, and willingness to ret con when needed. The author is clearly growing over trine as well.

Its general quality is without a doubt a cut or even two above the usual RR works.
The only criticism i can offer would be that
-some of the timeline of events seems really rushed
-Mc has this teally weird dichotomy of beimg very young and at the same time having recieved a blessing of wisdom, and then he goes and does reeeally dumb shit every couple chaps.  Only recently did we learn how old he is exactly, 8, and he basically just finished a a serious warrior bootcamp. Which just seems ridiculous, he can even wipe the floor with most regular adults even without magic...
intriguing worldbuilding and decent characters got me thirsting for more though.
but yeah it all seems overblown for how much of a child he in all honesty still is.
    a definite recommendation though

It starts like every other great adventure starts with a big scary monster and a brave young boy.
Ye it's not a typical adventure story and the characters are good it has been a very long time since I read the first 20 or 30 chapters so I can't remember what was great and what wasn't but I remember how I liked it.
I liked the start, the middle of the first volume got a bit too long and then it ended and I wanted more. I think the author took a break for a bit somewhere in there so I thought he would just do 1 book and then he started on the second book and now I read it every time he publishes a new chapter as soon as I see them so I would recommend to read.

Nothing about this story is truly inventive but the grammar is good so that’s a plus. The biggest problem with this story is the amount of plot armor the MC has. It seems like everything is set before him to just pick up. Even the “challenges” don’t feel real because the reader know it isn’t actually a challenge, just a plot device to give the MC another power up.
