The Beast Down Below: An Ascendancy short story

A young man is stopped on his way to get a haircut, by a band of armed travellers. Why? He asks. They need him, they beg. To save their floating city from the beast that lurks below. His tales of unmatched bravery/stupidity (depending on who you ask) had reached their docks and they have enough money to get him a fancier haircut.

He accepts. After all, what's a god to godkiller.
