The Awesometacular Space Adventures (Space Opera, Zombies Included)
Community Rating
Description
Welcome toThe Awesometacular Space Adventures(TASA), a comedic space opera with progression elements. The MC gains new abilities, weapons, and ships over the course of six initial books, while battling zombies, pirates, warships, and hidden enemies, as he evolves into the superhero "Metal Mask" with his best friend (the murder ship) by his side.
Expectations: This is a slow progression. It is not LitRPG. The character improves, but I have not included stat pop-ups.
TEASER
The Outer System Alliance and Solar Union are at war. As a lonely Wavepilot in the Outer System Alliance, Henry Hayes (aka @kittyboy) is subject to a life of battle, death, and reanimation. He stumbles into a crisis that could turn the tide of the war and is charged with stopping it, gaining a human crew member that freaks him out because now he has to keep people alive.
This is a story of action, adventure, and friendship, as @kittyboy tries to balance his responsibilities with the value of new relationships that change his worldview. Unfortunately, the Solar System might have picked the wrong hero because @kittyboy is a rascal at heart, and chances are he'll mess it all up spectacularly.
Prepare for a lighthearted journey through space, and don't forget, "Reanimation begins with a scream!"
Q&A
Is this LitRPG?No, but I wrote it so that if I later wanted to make it LitRPG, I could do so. It's tempting.
Is this a superhero story?Yeah, I guess.
Is this a romance?Yes, there is a lurking romance, but it is a slow one.
Is this about friendship?Absolutely.
Is it funny?I'd say it is silly. I try to balance humor, battles, and chill character interaction to keep it balanced.
Is there a lot of fighting?Yes, but not always. The world steadily falls apart, so as the story progresses, there are more and more battle scenes and fight sequences. Book 1 is kind of chill vibes. Book 2 is more fighty.

- A Humble ReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I can't believe that this story has such little attention. It's a little silly, but definitely engaging, well thought-out, and much better written than most stories on this site.
What stands out the most to me are the characters. @kittyboy is a silly, competent, and likeable main character, and all the various side characters have their own voice distinct from a boilerplate 'author voice.'
I dislike the inclusion of ai art on principle, and that's my biggest issue with this story. A somewhat more minor issue is that this story markets itself as a comedy, I don't find myself laughing very often while reading it. I will say that the tone is certainly quite lighthearted, and silly while remaining mostly grounded (despite taking place in space).
The grammar is solid, no notes. Spelling, etc. are all fine.
The story itself is enjoyable. I really like this setting you've built, being transhumanist myself. So far, the emotional struggle of memory gaps is my favorite part. Who are you without your memories?
Overall, a really good story, who deserves a lot more attention than it's gotten so far. I really like it! I look forward to the conclusion of the first book, as well as the publication of the second.
