The Apocalypse is a Sidequest - [STUBBED]

Description
Sometimes the best way to save the world is to ignore it completely.
Nathan Lee has exactly three talents: overthinking social encounters, avoiding responsibility, and farming in video games. When the apocalypse hits, he accidentally dumps all his rare skill points into... fishing. Just his luck.
Now Nathan's trapped in the hardest tutorial mode the System could devise. After that, nine deadly realms stand between humanity and their way home.
The would-be heroes can go save the world with [Gigantic Sword of Doom] and [Fireball Barrage]. Nathan's busy maxing out [Ability to Sit Quietly in a Boat]. He’ll ride out the end times and leave the hero stuff to people who don't get queasy at the sight of blood.
Too bad the universe has other plans.
His first day in the tutorial, he accidentally deletes a monster from reality thanks to a system bug. Then he feeds experimental radishes to a giant snail and somehow earns [Shell of Protection]. Now he's taking down ogres with his fishing rod turned oversized mace!? It turns out that side quest rewards and weak classes are more powerful than anyone expected...
So grab your tackle box and buckle your overalls. It's sink or swim in this side-questing calamity!
What to expect:
- Weak-to-strong MC
- Fishing pole combat. Why? Because.
- Tons of loot
- Light-hearted comedy that isn't afraid to touch on drama
- Magic snails and talking fish
- Weed

- LumickRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Quite an enjoyable read so far. I like the unique approach to an apocalypse with fishing. I like the pacing and the grammar is well done. A few edits here and there. But overall a good story. I am curious about where the story will go next. Thank you for the chapter!
- Paco_MerteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My son loves fishing, so the cover immediately caught my attention. The first chapter is simply amazing! The system's irony is brilliantly executed—I love it; it reminds me of Dungeon Crawler Carl. The way he manages to save his life afterward is perhaps a bit far-fetched (or hooked, haha), but it doesn’t matter. You keep reading, and it totally pulls you in. I also laughed at the poisonous water and what happened there. For me, the best part is the system; it’s not easy to create an ironic voice that’s genuinely funny.
- QwandriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Where do I start?
Style, it's good, no major issues there, it doesn't really stand out, and it's quite standard. The only real thing I have to say about it is that it does have a unique feeling, and the word choices are usually fine.
Story. The world itself is kinda bland, but I am excited to see what the author comes up with for the other 8 circles. Theres a lot of potential for switching scenery, and it's a very unique and clever idea I haven't seen implemented before. The story itself right now is generic, with a big bad organization opposing the hero, both parties looking for the Pandora. I love the soulbound town stuff, really reminds me of CoC, and is a nice break from running around the fantasy world.
Grammar. The spelling is a bit bad, with many typos, it's not illegible, but it's a bit annoying. Issue I have is that author keeps forgetting that Nathan only has
one arm
but is fixing that, so there is no issues there.
.Character. We have Nathan, the MC. Nathan is pretty standard at first, but after the first arc, he goes a bit more bloodthirsty. The part I love about MC however, is that he's not like over sys-apoc MCs, where they are all psychos and/or "Made for the apocalypse", it gets grating to read an MC who chucks ethics out the window on the first day. His party is fine, not much to say about Bjorn and Emi, other than that they hate eachother, Chad and Mara though have more screentime, so I will cover them. Chad comes off as a cardboard streamer, but it's quickly shown that he is more than meets the eye, with a sixth sense for people, and more serious than expected. Mara is a murder-hobo, gun nut. I like her gun nuttiness, and I think that was a good choice on the author's part, to make her more funny like that.
Overall: The humor is funny, with how the stereotypes are exaggerated to the extreme, but the comedy part isn't afraid to get darker. I'm looking forward to reading more! - Wartimenu1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5A short review but still. I came for Lit Rpg and lulz, I got it and more. My only complaint is that I must now wait to read more. Makes me think of some player you would hear about on the 2001 forums who was obsessed with Fishing games. Add in a overpowered and spiteful overseer, fireworks in written form IMHO
- TheMadManRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Good, entertaining story. The strength progreesion fells a bit off and often what seem to be important milestones (namely some of the skills and skill upgrades) don't appear to have too much affect (typical system +10 to that, +15% to that. I'm looking at you
harpoon
skill). They do usually seem to have some kind if powerup though, before fading into irrelevancy in the next paragraph. Not too bad though, just a personal gripe.
Also a personal gripe: main character mental troubles that weren't mentioned until the plot needed them. Not as bad as in a lot of other stories though, not overly defining and dealt with fairly well once brought up.
Characters lean very heavily into their stereotypes These aren't cliche stereotypes, though, and (of course) nothing derogatory. It really just helps with the comedy (the story can be very serious, but when it's not it usually leans towards comedic). Character detail and progression is pretty good too, even for the side characters.
Grammer's pretty good, save the sparse passable errors and the thing with the
arm.
Also, author, I was promised a sitting quietly in a boat skill. I still have not yet seen a sitting quietly in a boat skill. Does your word mean nothing?!? (Dumbledore said with love and sarcasm) - GeneralsmallRoyal Road★★★ 3.0fun, unexpected hero story whose strength grows way faster than he can keep up with. tough antagonists make the story move. grammar can be a bit spotty and so is the wording at times, but it is a forgivable amount. author seems to be working on taking advice on system character from readers and is making good progress there. keep it up! i want to read a series of this.
- HenderRoyal Road★★★ 3.0As much as the story 'fun' it is devoid of the very thing it promied: focus on fishing(and i mean THE fishing, not whatever gamelike parodies there might be).
You can still read this, however. For it IS a *mostly* lighthearted story with a lot of fun chaos(not to mention litrpg). - kmuRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Could have been good but totally disliked the main character, he was just not some one I could relate too. When he did show some courage, he backed down cause it was to much for him!! Really just not someone I want to read about.. Don't have any more to say .
- optimitchRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The story is a bit all over the place, the characters are a bit one dimensional, the premise isn't quite side questing toward victory and there are some unfortunate word choices. Everyone is a bit of a sociopath, and the attempts at comedy often fall a bit flat.
Below is some complaints over action scenes and other physical descriptions, spoiled for plot reasons.
After the MC loses an arm, often fight scenes will have him switching between weapons as if he had two hands, or he will be described as "hands shaking" or "clapping his hands." He also describes missing an arm as being half a man, which is extremely ableist. It's more of an aesthetic disability than anything played seriously, with even less care paid than something like evil dead.
All in all this is fine, if a bit scattered and upsetting. If you're looking for a story about fighting and gore, (and making jokes about contract law I guess?) this is for you. If you're expecting a story about fishing and side quests, look somewhere else. - VicLRoyal Road★★★ 2.5To be fair the writing itself isn't bad. Articulation, grammer, rhythm, it's not bad at all. I'm sure in there somewhere there's a good plot and worthwhile development... maybe. But...
It's the first time I ever encountered a MC that I actually hate on chapter 1. I've read villain MCs, anti-heroes galore, spoilt brats... but even those took at least a few chapters to hate. This one... I'm not taking excuses.
I tried to give it some time, maybe another chapter or so... nope. Not getting better.
The first couple of chapters were already beyond my tolerance limit.
I'm out.
