- Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The premise is there, the steampunk vibes are there, the characters are well flashed-out. The only thing that stops this from being a 5 star is the grammar and slightly clunky flow.
It is by no means illegible, but all the positive stuff that I just mentiomed does struggle to balance out the flow at times. I wish I could give some piece of advice on how to improve that, but I'm afraid there isn't a simple solution. It's not the kind of thing a second pass would fix, but neither does this need a full rewrite. Maybe editing a few sentences here and there would help?
That veing said, the steampunk atmosphere really stand out in this one. Everything cog and piston power machine is alive. It moves and breathes, and is greasy and moving. You can almost feel the ship breathing with its metal guts as we discover it along with the MC.
TLDR: if you're a fan of fleshed out steampunk that's more than just visual aesthetics, this one is for you.
