Some things to consider: It is need of a little copyediting and a bit of a typo check - also 'cosy prison' is not just a typo, but a bit of tonal clash. On the subject of tone, the prose slips in and out of a somewhat flowery description making it feel a bit uneven. Stronger emotional elements should be used to balance the rather plain and mechanical descriptions of the action. I mention that because the piece is actually weakened by irrelevant details such as the simple act of giving the kitten some milk and tuna.
