- tayco123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just adore this kind of stories. A adorable establishing romance. Wonderfull and good Worldbuilding. A story you should read.
The Romance just feels written good and not hastily or prematurly written out. The Worldbuilding is explained enough that it is not unsatisfying, but does not overshadow the relationship.
I hope the story will go on and on... - GemflintRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love how the story reflects the progression of a down and out young man in discovering his special abilities and his introduction to the hidden world of magic.
Each character has flaws, the challenge being to acknowledge said issues and overcome them. Yes, some individuals are over powered, but they still have myriad issues to resolve, which is refreshing.
The author's style is mainly first person views, with an occasional third person observation popping up. The author's uses the "Show, not tell" style of writing, which makes their world much richer in description and gives it more depth.
The story itself flows fairly smoothly and has a logical progression to it. I didn't see anything that disrupted my suspension of disbelieve. The story itself didn't seem to be rushed either.
Grammer is pretty good, with only a few minor typos. Nothing too glaring or distracting. The words flowed smoothly, nothing too verbose or make it difficult to read.
The main character seems pretty well fleshed out, having both assets and flaws, making mistakes and learning from them. It seemed to be an honest young man who is having to make his way in the world, going from being powerless and dependent to having the potential of having great power, independence, and responsibility.
Overall, a very good book and am eager to read more. - mohillbillyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I just recently found this story. I am really enjoying your story, I like how you do not over do it with too much adventure all at once. There is time in between incidents to learn new things about the world. Plus just when the whole lover triangle thing was starting to get old you knew and ended it, not letting it be the story.
- MudrostRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of those books that will do amazing in the real world but not have the best ratings on RRL.
I'll be honest the style is a little clunky, but this being this authors first or second work from my understanding, will buff out as the author comes into his own. Highly recommend the author goes through a rigorous publishing process. There is a lot of potential but the style is the main thing that would stop this from being a bestseller.
The story is fantastic. It is fairly original and has great pacing. The author does a great job maintaining conflict in the story that isn't too outlandish but also has decent stakes. I love how the author ties in unintentional consequences to actions. Some of the characters actions lead to unintended consequences that are not forgotten and push the story.
Grammar is one of those areas that usually doesn't impact me that much if I love the story. Personally I didn't really see anything that pulled me out of the story. Also this is one of the simplest issues to fix and the author pays close attention to his commenters.
Characters is where this story really shines. I will admit that most (probably all) of the adults in the story are pretty one dimensional and cardboard for now, but the story isn't about them and few adults are consistently present. The adults really just seem like set pieces rather than characters. That being said, the characters that are consistently in the story are believable and easy to connect to. Their decisions are realistic and the causality makes sense. They feel like real people, no Mary Sues.
Here comes the hard pill. There are a lot of reviews about the mistakes the characters make. Most completely ignore the mistakes Kali makes solely because she isn't an MC. A lot of people on RRL want to live out narcissistic Mary Sue fantasies where the MC is powerful, good looking, and a genius, and that all failures are the fault of others and only the MC's awesomeness can save them. What many RRL - lixaxilRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Ignore the title, it looks like a basic shounen garbage novel but it's a ruse. Instead you are getting a nice teen novel. It's much much much better than you could expect from the title.
It's too early to talk about the plot as the story is only getting started so I will say a few things which I liked: the setting, good pacing (for now), and interesting game/magic system.
Some things which could be better in my opinion: I don't think I can read about a 15 year old teen for a long time, hope he matures in around a 100 chapters or it will be a drag. I would prefer more magic exploration and character building, while at the moment it makes sense that MCs react to things happening I would like them to also have more meaningful interactions between each other and the world around them.
A small update, read around 80? chapter's, I guess I am just not the target audience here, too much teenage romance and the setting is too lighthearted at the moment. - BhelueRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The first three books were really good despite the constant bathroom humor. But by the time of the fourth book, it was like the author had a dozen different ideas on where the two main charaters should go and couldn't decide which one to choose, so chose them all. And the only thing that makes it work is that all the "bad guys" are stupid. I was able to ignore some of this at first but it's like all of the author's bad issues culminated in book 4. Non stop Bathroom references, sexual innendos for underage children, too many people being dumb to make the plot work. Also there is major plot hole with Kalli. Why does she not have a bloodline like all the other major characters in the book. Too many things react to her like she has one but if she had one in the begining it would have been obvious she wasn't who she appeared to be so the author didn't give her one. All of this has added up to me abandoning what could have been a great series of books. :(
- Loopy-Bubble-SnifferRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Meet Melvin Murphy, your below average everyday teen trying to make his way through high school. One day he awakens and learns of a system that governs all magic.
In his attempt to summon a master to show him the ropes, he accidentally botches the ritual and summons Kalliphae. This is the story of a dimwitted kid who neglects his hard working mother to help everyone else.
He consistently makes bone headed decisions that invites close shaves with death or harm to his friends, he goes "Oh, oops" instead of feeling bad about it and learning from his mistakes.
There is this one time where some idiot that wants Melvins help knowingly steps on Kalli in front of him, but he goes and helps free of charge anyway. I'm sure there are more people around that are more worthy of his time.
Ever since they arrived in Gaia I feel like the story derailed, like the author is intentionally putting off Kalli's quest to increase character count or something. - blaze262Royal Road★★ 2.0So, the story is nice, but there's a lot of flaws with the MC.
1. In chapter 1, it was stated that he would've gotten a 4.0 GPA if not for PE, but in his interactions with Kallie, he doesn't know Geography, Chemistry, nor any Physics concepts and could not explain them.
2. For a person who've watched anime, he's very unimaginative with his new found powers. He doesn't push the boundries of what he may be capable of and relies on others to give him instructions on what to do. His first instinct being to summon someone to teach him what to do without thinking of the consequences.
3. His character is also weak, even after getting powers, he's afraid of his bullies and relies on Kallie to handle the mess for him. - PainGainRoyal Road★★ 2.01 dimensional character, no real plot.
MC has THE overpowered ability. That's OK, we know how to keep it interesting, just assign some challenging limits... but there aren't any meaningful limits.
How about a shadowy organization hunting him? Sure, there is... for about 20 chapters, and then it becomes basically slice of life.
The character is probably about 16, and unfortunately is written pretty accurately as a teenager. Gets godlike powers and just... doesn't really gain any maturity to go along with it. Doesn't treat his powers seriously, doesn't recognize the danger of having his powers, doesn't seem to care about all the good he could do with it. Just kinda wanders around. Characters in the story recognize (once) that he's kinda stupid, but its treated as a joke. It's just... no one in the story even tries to do anything real with his power. The headmaster profits off him and risks exposing his secret to dozens of strangers, and the MC doesn't notice or care.
Plot never goes anywhere.
They eventually go to the other world- I'm at least 15 chapters into that. Nothing happening. They talk about healing a magical plague with great urgency, then sit around eating muffins.
The whole thing is just not well thought out or developed. I'm sure some people like stories like these, but if you don't like what I described above... this story is not for you. - EugenioRoyal Road★★ 2.0The story itself seems quite nice... But the protagonist is not the brightest... Or bright at all.
He doesn't experiment with his power. His power has enormous flexibility but he does two naive experiments and that's it.
He , although in USA they have a slightly higher standard of education regarding these subjects, know nothing about the how's of simple objects... Like a car.
He , a person that watches animes, knows about isekai ,and let's not talk about how stupid it is to do a summoning with zero experience with the system, magic and how everything works, is entering the home of, for what he knows one of the strongest people on Earth, that has JUST seen that this person is able to materialize flowers and a garden, that has JUST been told that this is an illusion, can not imagine that the hut he is about to enter will not be A HUT inside!!? ... You repetidely talked about the world of Harry potter, and you can't imagine that this will be something similar to entry of Diagon Alley or the station!? HE has a BIG lack of imagination.
He, that is Really poor, so poor that his mother is only able to earn enough to pay the apartment and food, not even the heat, while working almost all the day, that is unable to pay for some cookies in a shop... GIVE 20 BUCKS AS A TIP FOR A TAXI!!
AND I conclude the incongruities of this story saying that :
**MINI PREDICTABLE SPOILER**
The girl took a romantically liking to him in ... HALF A DAY
