Description
What would you consider a bad day? Having your father threaten the family shrine in order to get you to cooperate? Maybe having aliens invade? Well Reina experienced both. On the same day.
So when the sky is ripped open, and aliens rain down upon the city, Reina is given the chance to become vanguard, defender of humanity. Now she has to struggle not only with her new found power, but the responsibility of protecting an entire city, before it all burns down around her.
A Stray Cat Strut Fanfiction- This is based upon the setting created by RavensDagger, it is not canon, but I AM doing my best to make it consistent. Thanks to RavensDagger for creating the setting and providing me access to some of the public reference material.
Note about lack of fanfiction tag: I received RavensDagger's (SCS’s original author) permission to take donations. The RR admin wasn't able to open donations to my previous story without removing the tag, so the lack of tag is intentional.

- SilereVitamRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this after Teddy Bears on Brigade. For Tarnished Honor, the characters were well written and the moments of calm were nice to read. I did struggle a little bit with the main character's tech tree, but it was purely a matter of I wouldn't have done it that was (as MC). The author did a good job of making it believeable and keeping the characters human with mistakes and flaws. I enjoyed both stories.
- EiferRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not really to my personal tastes, sadly. There's too many things that are frustrating.
Like, is it a howitzer or a mortar? If its some special hybrid type, it would have alleviated a head scratching.
The environment and people around our fresh samurai comes off as partly condescending, partly hand holdy. I can't really tell if that's my personal bias from all the other stories though. Teddy at least feels much more independent.
Despite the stuff above, it was an enjoyable read. Good quality, good descriptions and somewhat relatable MCs. It was very interesting to get a glimpse into what a corpo vanguard might look like 👍 - HikinBearRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Rich girl from a broken, abusive family. Years of martial arts to help center herself pay off when she is chosen to be a Samurai. An interesting premise for a Stray Cat Fan Fiction.
The style is first person with weak to strong progression.
The story begins dealing with her abusive father, being chosen as a Samurai, then fighting Antithesis invaders, which makes a real Bad Day. The Main Character has a phobia against guns so she she falls back on her Martial Arts training with swords. As this is in the Stray Cat Universe, we see lots of action fighting Antithesis with character building in between. Some knowledge of the lore helps with understanding what is going on.
Grammar is very good and nothing major shows up. Occasional word faults, but over all very good.
The Characters are well defined. The MC is Abrasive and self-centered, so at least initially is not someone you can sympathize with. She is not a ‘People Person’. As the story progresses the MC finally opens up a bit when her live-in Girlfriend makes an appearance as another Samurai, which adds a fun dynamic to the story.
I find this a fun, light read and I recommend it. - HuntingPopsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the better SCS fictions. Different from most since the MC is privileged and doesn’t need to do the work. Great writing and story telling. Quick read! Thanks for occupying my spare time. I plan on checking out your other stories if you have them and following you for future stories.
- Will It WorkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you've read anything else by you know what you're getting into. Tight writing with some frustrating typoes, intense action scenes, and depressurization provided by wholesome slice of life. They tried to do something different here, with the primary perspective voice being a young swordswoman, with… mixed results, but an overall good read. There are also a couple of bridging events and characters, which is pleasant to see in a rich, shared universe.
Sometimes, in original writing and in original roleplay, you have a character with an informed backstory or trait, that just doesn't come out. Skylar doesn't spend much time lawyering, and Reina, who is set up to be this very shaped, driven, angry ‘noble’ (thus the ‘tarnished honor’ of the series title) doesn't spend a lot of time redeeming her family or her grandfather's legacy.
That said, it's a fun read! Choose if you like wholesome yuri, like the SCS universe, or slicing.
Those who prefer villain protagonists, harems, or grimderp should avoid. - Michael SheldonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying this so far. Plenty of action without getting bogged down in endless chapters of over-detailed battle techniques. Plenty of story and backstory without turning into endless chapters of navel-gazing.
The author has really picked up on the feeling of the Antithesis universe, making this fiction slot into it seamlessly. - Ren_The_TURKRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay, I love TBoB, its my favorite SCS Fanfic. I gave this a chance, it was worth it. It's starting to hit its stride now, walking tall. Dual main characters isn't exactly new but it is a space that has room to grow. Especially since these two are attached at the hip practically. Dating your partner even before becoming a Vanguard has perks. Not like that you perv. They work well together and cover each others flaws quite well, allowing for a powerful team starting out of the gate. If you like TBoB, grab this one too, it's going places.
- DatateqRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall, it was an interesting look into an alternative character, but it didn’t feel as engaging as TBoB. I think some of it was their struggle to get up out of the newbie ranks due to their choices and I suppose that is a valid and expected path for some, but I guess it is just not as fun to read. I think the no guns thing made sense from the character’s perspective but during the course of the story I struggled to see how they could be effective especially with the avoidance of cyberware. In any event, it was an interesting take, but I think you chose a good place to end the story. Thanks for sharing your time and creativity.
- LamoronRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The author of this also writes Teddy Bears on Brigade. In that story the MC is mostly logical (when taking personality into consideration), does smart(ish) things, and any dumb shit she does is explained by age and lack of education.
This story is about a well trained, well educated, adult, rich woman, with some Trauma that's supposed to make her incredibly poor decision making palatable.
It does not work. She's annoying, the relationship with her GF is made of cardboard, and she continuously does the dumbest shit imaginable. - misssaturnRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5A good spin-off from SCS universe. A new perspective from a rich girl, but with a complicated family. It has all the aspects from SCS, but with a girlfriend to go along in the journey. The battles are interesting and action packed.
I don't like much the MC's personality, quite abrasive and loud. She lacks depth. Not only the MC but the side characters as well, so it's a bit hard to connect with them.
Something that I don't like about he AIs:
The AI's plotting for them to be together and them being better at processing for it doesn't make sense though, those AIs are by themselves super powerful, which they also mention. So when they interact with answer, each one in a dialog, it looks a bit forced.
Overall a relaxing read with some fun action, but with some aspects that need some work.
