Yushin gave up gaming and focused solely on work. With life changing news, he finds solace in the recently released VRMMO "Tales of The Heroic Kingdoms".The game promised to be a new highlight to a stale MMO age. The golden age of MMO’s had long past. They became extremely repetitive and boring, just grind for gear and rush raids template that never seemed to go anywhere. - The_ReviewerRoyal Road★★ 2.0For note, I made it to chapter 3 for this review.
I assume that English is not the author's first language, as there are a number of issues that are not common in native speakers.
Further, there's a clear lack of depth in the background of this story. For example, a "rare disease" is given a 0.01% prevalence in the population. That's one in ten thousand - as far as diseases go, that's not especially common, but also not very rare. Certainly not rare enough for it to make sense for it to have been just discovered.
Additionally, the MC is supposedly an extraordinary author, having written one hundred books over ten years. That's ten books a year.
An example of an extremely prolific author, Piers Anthony, released a total of 166 books from 1956 to 2013. That works out to just under 3 books per year. Ten books per year is madness.
These are just two examples of glaring ways in which this story appears to have no real understanding of its background. It is very hard to have any suspension of disbelief with issues of this scale. If the author is ignorant of something, that's fine - it's not important to give actual figures for things. The disease could simply have been called rare, and the writing could simply have been called prolific.
The ignorance displayed - and worse, ignorance of his/her own ignorance - puts this story on shaky ground.
It's also not clear what this story is trying to meaningfully be about. Superficially, it's an author who's dying in five years, who's compensating by throwing himself at a game as escapism.
It could have been interesting, bit it isn't. There was room for a heavy emotional punch, but it was never given. There was a chance to care, but that chance was never taken.
The author needs to decide what the story is actually about - not from the perspective of plot, but the perspective of the human experience. All stories are just emotional rides, experiences, that readers or watchers join in on. What ride is the author trying to create?
