In the world of Taralensia, the shining city of Avenholme floats above the sea. The bird-winged race of Aven live peacefully but the turmoil of one family threatens to tear Avenholme apart. Roy Engelbrecht has the wings of a Peacock, born into a family of Eagles. Unable to become a success in the Skyguard, too impatient to become a Scholar and banned from becoming a Bard he makes a stupid, brash decision.
