Tales of Reborn - A Pokemon Tabletop Adventure
Community Rating
Description
Kanto has changed a lot in the past ten years. The League is no more, and trainers have become mere tools for the rich and powerful, either mercenaries or attack dogs for the region's shadowy new rulers. With a war in the horizon, the only hope of saving Kanto lies in the hands of an eccentric group of trainers hired by a mysterious masked man.
Their task? To find and retrieve the six Lights of a long lost world.

This fic is an adaptation of a tabletop Pokemon campaign from a while ago. Its party and story have been with me for years as a favorite, so I asked permission from the DM and the other players to adapt it. I won't include the more game-y stuff like levels and stats, but I will point out particularly relevant dice rolls that changed the story in the end of chapter author notes. Cover was drawn by Yuki, the DM.

- Apollo149Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Fresh Take on a Familiar World
Tales of Reborn offers a captivating and unique reimagining of the beloved Pokémon world of Kanto. By introducing a dystopian setting where trainers are subjugated and the League is a relic of the past, the story immediately hooks readers with its intriguing premise.
A Colorful Cast and Intriguing Plot
The story's diverse cast of characters, each with their own quirks and motivations, adds depth and richness to the narrative. Their interactions, both humorous and heartfelt, create a sense of camaraderie and tension that keeps the reader engaged.
The plot, while rooted in familiar Pokémon tropes, takes a bold and unexpected turn with the introduction of the six Lights. This mysterious element adds a layer of intrigue and mystery, promising exciting adventures and epic battles.
A Darker Side of Pokémon
The darker tone of the story, with its oppressive government and persecuted trainers, provides a stark contrast to the usual lightheartedness of the Pokémon franchise. This shift in tone allows for more mature themes and deeper character development.
A Nostalgic Journey
For fans of the original tabletop campaign, Tales of Reborn offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The adaptation skillfully balances the familiar elements with new twists and turns, creating a fresh and exciting experience.
Potential Areas for Improvement:
While the story is strong overall, there are a few areas where it could be further developed.
Character Depth: Some of the supporting characters could benefit from additional development to make them more memorable and impactful.
Pacing: While the pacing is generally good, there are moments where the story could be tightened up to maintain momentum.
Despite these minor criticisms, Tales of Reborn is a fantastic piece of fan fiction that deserves recognition. Overall, it is a must-read for any Pokémon fan who craves a darker, more mature take on the series. With its compelling characters, intriguing plot, and stunnin - SqwakerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This a very well written novel, based on a tabletop campaign. The story starts off strong, and quickly progresses into action.
There is a large cast of characters, with a wide variety of personality, and the perspective has many shifts to provide insight into all of their thoughts; and as there are more chapters, this will surely expand.
The grammar is amazing, with minimal error — likely just some things that were missed during editing. The style is perfect, with no issues in tense or otherwise.
The story is solid, with there being a clear objective, and plenty of mystery to uncover as the novel developes, for both the characters and the plot.
