Tales of Alexander: The Ancient Bloodline
Community Rating
Description
In a world where bloodline and talent determined everything magic-related, Alexander seemed to get everything needed for a prosperous future by being born from a prestigious family on his mother’s side. However, with an unknown biological father, after his mother, Isabella, rebelliously found a lover at a very young age, Alexander’s body was ‘tainted’ with a mysterious mana curse that prevented his body from absorbing mana. Despite countless attempts at dispelling the curse, nothing worked.
Years after Alexander’s birth, his mother managed to marry Duke Kallis out of love, and he’d become a strict but loving father that treats him the same as his step-siblings. Penelope and Eliot, children who lost their mother tragically to illness, now gained an unexpected brother who they only started accepting after the birth of their half-sister Elena. Their relationship was everything except normal, making even their conversations awkward at times. It didn’t help that Alexander was ridiculed by everyone outside the family for being the black sheep, a reputation that followed him throughout his life.
While his siblings proved to be generational talents, even among the strongest in the world, managing to form mana cores at an extremely young age, Alexander only dreamed of having magic. However, as fate would have it, Alexander’s future was bound to change when he met a mysterious individual who claimed he could help him.
Tales of Alexander: The Ancient Bloodline is a fantasy novel that allows us to explore the world of Gaia through Alex’s countless journeys. Hope you enjoy, and see you on the other side!

- A V DalcourtRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Written in first person, the narrative style feels more like a 3rd person narrative – no complaints here. The flow of the story is a nice balance of description, world building, action and dialogue, all without leaning too much in one area.
Story: We’re following Alexander, the step brother of a pre-existing royal family, who tends to feel like he’s intruding and is generally unwanted. After a tremulous few years and savage sibling rivalry, the siblings have more or less patched things up. By far their relationship is the part of the story I enjoyed the most… and then we get into the dark world of political destabilization and underground human trafficking.
Character: All of the siblings are very well developed. I found myself growing rather attached to them pretty early one, with no discernible favourites. The mother feels a bit more developed, but maybe her desire to bring comfort and nurture the distraught siblings is what did it for me. While the duke remains firm and detached, which likely the nature of his station and general role he must play. We’re introduced to a handful of members of the royal court, but then we’re rapidly whisked away to the hellish underworld of the slave trade that’s just chock full of unsavoury characters.
Well worth reading! - Akten DreamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A wonderful rendition of a Fantasy story.
Overall - The story summary, lays down the background for Alexander, so everything that follows only adds up on top. The story is good, the settings are good, and the characters are to my liking.
Style - First Person's point of view is the only view of the story. Everything we experience is through Alexander and the rare PoV shift of some other character to explain some things here and there.
Grammar - Basically perfect from what I saw and read. There will be no problems understanding the content.
Story - The story itself is simple. It's chronological and every event has a flow itself that displayed the skill of the writer. The narration of things is clear and there is no mumble jumble to it at all. Tho, if I have to complain Id say that sometimes the MC thinks too much during some scenes and some actions. To me it feels similar to JoJo where every character has that bit of extra time to say his words, only here it's the MC's thoughts. It's nothing major but it is noticeable here and there.
Character - Character development has happened but it's very little as the characters are already very established in their line of thinking and depth. It's hard to water to a cup that which is already close to full. Anyway, there are dynamics between characters, that are fun to read, so nothing really to complain about from my side.
Not sure what else to write, but I guess, 'd wish for there to be more chapters.
That is all from me.
Yours truly, Akten Dreams. - Caelum MhirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: I love this story. From the first paragraphs I was intrigued and pulled into the story world. The characters are personable and easy to connect with and as the story progresses they make me care about what happens to them and to their families. Sometimes their actions leave me frustrated, and I have to keep reading to find out how it all works out. The world building is complex and unique, though it feels familiar enough to be believable (at least as a fictional world).
Style: Informal, high energy, generally fast paced, with a complex mana system and detailed world building. I binge read the story, and read new chapters the day they are posted. It draws me out of the real world and into the story world - a definite benefit these days. Enough clues are left that active reading is rewarded, and I am left wondering what will be revealed in coming chapters. A very readable and engaging style!
Grammar: The grammar is clean and unobtrusive. Minor errors are caught and corrected quickly (though I don't recall many of those).
Story: What could be seen as a coming of age story becomes much more through the clever weaving of mana/magic and politics. The MC sacrifices himself to save his step siblings, only to find himself on a path to personal mana-healing and, in a sense, rebirth. The FMC, who may be the more adventurous, pushes the MC to grow and be his best.
Character: The main characters are multi-dimensional, well-developed and continue to grow throughout the story. What takes this story to the next level are the supporting characters. They are rich in personality, intriguing, and carefully woven into the plot. Their contributions enhance the main characters, and allow them to become who they need to be. - Cam1232Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0You're doing a great job. Keep it up. Loving the story and can't wait for them to go to the academy. I love this so much. Hope you're having fun writing this and know that people are loving it. Keep it up.
i don't have much else to write but I need to make the minimum of 50 words. I'm probably nowhere near that so I'm waffling. - JEPayneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like the title said, this is a classic fantasy story with everything! Family drama! Brutal combat! Sinister plots! Magic! It's well written and engaging from the get go.
Style - the style is great! It's consistent across the board and fits the tone of the story perfectly. It runs a gamut from moments of brevity during sibling squabbles, to righteous anger at the bad guys' actions, and outright cheering at some epic moments.
Story - as stated, this story has something for everyone. The immediate stakes feel intense and personal, revolving around the safety of characters we care about, while we see a broader plot playing out alongside, revealed in bits and pieces interspersed through the viewpoint characters' personal struggles. Ifs intriguing and engaging from the get go, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Grammar - no issues I saw.
Character - the character work was fantastic. The litmus test I use for ascertaining whether characters are good, is whether how they act varies depending on who they are interacting with. In a short period of time, every one of the siblings is established as a fleshed out, realistic person with complex interpersonal relationships with each of the other siblings and those around them. They feel real! Which makes them engaging for the reader, which in turn makes us invested in the story being told.
All in all, this is a fantastic story that's worth checking out! Favourited and followed! - YurivwRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I very much don't like reading at all. But it was worth going through this. I read it at work to keep me distracted for a short while and before I knew it I was behind on my schedule. Definitely would recommend if you want to do anything but your job.
- MrMerkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Having read ahead due to being a patreon subscriber and seeing how this story goes from intial's setting into a wider and more advanced and in-depth world; I can happily say that I'll be following this stories progress and will be suggesting it to as many people as I can who I think would be interested.
The character's growth is well portrayed and the emotional growth between character's is even better to see.
I do hope that those of you who have an initial interest in this series, read as much as you can before you form an opinion.
You can see that Riz has began the process of fleshing out and building a world that will encompass many future stories and tales, if you're familiar with his past work - you'll notice that they excell at anything fantasy based and I'm excited to see how he builds a world completely his own and engages us in a journey throughout out.
Will we become confused at interactions, events and growth only to have the pieces of the puzzle fall into place in a much later chapter? Perhaps.
The story follows a relatable MC, surrounded by characters that are easy to love and even easier to hate; the pacing and style of the story is decent enough without being tedious and you can really see the effort that Riz has put into improving their grammar and english. Amazing stuff. - GLMRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Story is good, very readable, but its not without its flaws.
The first person narration works at times and doesn't at others, there is jank there, mostly when the author wants to have exposition by making the characters straight up tell the reader things that should have been told through other means.
Grammer is fine, some mistakes here and there but nothing too major.
Then there is the plot and characters, oh boy. Spoilers ahead, but nothing too major.
In the first Arc expect comically evil slavers and shit tons rape and overall the author making sure you know who the bad guys are, a little bit on the grimdark side even.
That is in stark contrast to the second Arc. Where he finds his first love interest in the form of an elf girl that was captured by some slavers and goes to elf kingdom where everything is fine and wholesome... can you guess where this is going? its not done yet, but I'm pretty damn sure I've read this Arc before, maybe in two different light novels, Reincarnated King... i think?
The story is good, not perfect, but good enough for an enjoyable read. - Peter_the_greatRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I loved the story in the beginning a reason to fight a cheat power but then all mentions of the organization is dropped the story only lasts as long as the slavery arc lasts after that it's a different Sony entirely like I didn't sign up for a romance I want a revenge story
- David PontierRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall: This is one of the few stories I am following on RR. It has kept my interest, and I honestly have no idea where it is going. The MC runs into colorful characters, villains, and allies. Despite the few problems I have described below, it is worth a read.
Style: I really think this should be written in the third person. By Chapter 12, there have been four different first-person viewpoints. While the temperament of each of these characters is different, the style in which they speak has been the same, making it difficult to see them differently. I agree with the author’s decision to give different viewpoints as much happens out of the MCs realm of knowledge that is interesting to the reader, but it would read more naturally in the third person.
Also, two of the narrators tell us how attractive they are, and in the first person, it sounds conceited. There is an action sequence where the main character is hiding away from the conflict and tries to give a first-person account of events he isn’t in, which sounds disjointed.
Having said all that, the pace at which the story is told and the unfolding of the action is well done, and since 80% of the story is from one point of view, most of it seems consistent.
Story: I don’t have any major gripes with the story. It is more reactive than I usually like. None of the main characters have a goal other than to survive the trials they are put in. I would like an ultimate goal for each character so we can gauge their progress, but I feel that is coming as the story only feels about a third finished at this point.
Grammar: I’m picky for this one, and maybe most people won’t notice. Comma use is a bit erratic. Also, it seems that in almost every chapter, there is at least one sentence written in present tense when all the rest are in the past tense. The synopsis even has this. There are missing words like of, a, the, and so forth. Usually, your brain will put these in, so they are invisible, but, as I said,
