Description

In 2036, an eccentric billionaire funded humanity’s first trip to Mars as an ego project. That expedition made the most significant discovery in human history: proof of extraterrestrial life. The ancient alien outpost they found catapulted humanity’s knowledge of faster-than-light travel, genetic engineering, and planetary colonization forward by centuries.

Almost a century later, humanity has shown that despite their use of advanced technology, some things haven’t changed. Greed and xenophobia still run rampant amongst the stars, and wars are common between humanity’s dozens of extrasolar colonies.

Kayden is a recently discharged military pilot, just trying to make his way in the big universe. Fortunately for him, he’s about to stumble upon humanity’s next great discovery – one that could have an even more profound impact on the course of human history than finding the Mars outpost.

I’m really looking forward to more from this story. It gives me serious HFY vibes one of my favorite sci-fi genres and I’m always down for a little harem action. It’s got great chapter length and pacing so far and I’m too excited for the story to get kicked into high gear.

This Harem/LiT story has been an absolute gem! I love the genre and have read many that, though I've enjoyed, fall short of the bar that this story sets! I'm going to salve my stress about the continuation into #2 by reading this authors other book "Royal Blooded". Again, top marks for "Synthesis".

I know there is only a small amount up at the moment. However. Smith has already shown in this one chapter a depth to the world and characters he is creating that I am more than ready to explore. Some of the lore/history ties in with current events, the billionaire, and other parts gave me serious Mass Effect vibes. Which is not a detractor for me at all as I love the series. So let's get into the thick of it:
Style: never really been one to care if a story is first person or third person view or even if it switches between the two. Having said that this is a well done third person view from the MC so far. Enough explanation to know what's going on and shown not told if you know what I mean.
Story: as I said at the beginning it seems incredibly well laid out already with hints of foreshadowing of what's to come along with backstory for the MC to be explored and his buddy as well. I knew there was only the one chapter up when I read it and still tried to press the next button for more anyway when I got to the bottom on reflex alone because of the flow and how much it had drawn me in.
Grammar: I'm not a grammar person by any means (obviously), I'm sure I've had some issues in this statement alone. So if it doesn't pull me from the story or cause me to wonder what the hell was being said I don't notice or remember it. And nothing so far has pulled me from the story. Going off of Smith's other story here on RR I doubt there will be any points like that to come either.
Character: already loving the MC and the little bit seen of him and the glimpse into that backstory I mentioned earlier. Can't wait to see some more.
I'll update later at some point to see how it goes but Smith has a completed work here on RR and as long as he holds that standard I don't see my rating changing much.
    Let the journey begin!

While there are some fairly graph sex scenes, the primary focus is the story and the human interactions. The main characters are good people making their way as best they can.
You are in luck if poor editing drives you crazy. The story is very well edited. I have seen a couple of places where I would use a different word but nothing I would ask F.G. Smith to change.

Competent prose, which is a bare minimum expectation but the author clears the bar handily.  A bit rushed in plotting; by the second book most of the character relationships feel established and the new players aren't terribly distinctive, but more time could be spent developing personality rather than plot.  The author kindly keeps erotic scenes to their own, easily-bypassed chapters with nothing plot-critical.  While the companions are at least engaging, particularly two, they all tend to the unrealistically sex-obsessed persona that is used to excuse the harem element.  It's a bit uninspired overall, but fun fluff nevertheless.

I stopped reading on chapter 17 and got back around to finishing it; The story works better as a cohesive whole. It's also not a post apocalypses in the standard sense as the humanity in this story are doing it to themselves and anything apocalyptical happened to the precursor civilization in the past. That though is a nitpick and the story fulfills the promise of it's premise, though it saves some of it's characters for the sequel.
