Description

What would you do with godlike power? Play hero? Seize control? Maybe take a joyride to the moon?

Juniper? She’d rather stay in bed.

InCore Pacifica, capes rule the streets, and survival depends on luck. Juniper isn’t an aspirant, a rising star, or anything close to a hero. She’s a debt-ridden NEET struggling to care for her sick sibling and a younger one. She barely leaves her apartment—video games are her only escape.

But groceries won’t buy themselves. A simple errand couldn’t possibly turn fatal… right?

One wrong turn. That’s all it takes.

Thrown into chaos, Juniper must navigate a city where heroes aren't always heroic, villains aren't always evil, and survival means making impossible choices. Step too far, and she risks becoming something she never wanted to be.

What to expect:character-focused slow burn, capepunk power struggles, morally gray choices that get darker,

girls love with disaster bonds and messy failures, litrpg-style stats and progression

and a personified system that’s part partner, part nuisance.

This review will not make sence for anyone who has not played a PbtA rpg before. Its a good story, go read it. Read below for my real review.
Reading this felt like playing a few sessions of Masks.
The main character is a anti social (in the academic sence), dealing with a shit ton of trauma, trying and failing at parenting her siblings, lesbian with the potential power of multiple gods.
Between meltdowns, destruction of her body, self destructive tendencies and super powerd battles with another super junkie, she has to deal with the stable and uncompromising state apparatus.
At the last chapter i read (19) she got invited (by The Delinquient) to a gray hero organisation run by The Brain. So who is our hero/villan? Will she be The Innocent fighting until she becomed what she is destined/hated/feared/loved/cursed to be? Only time will tell. And time does not wait for anybody.

Superflux is a fun, realistic superhero novel that follows a young woman as she gradually finds her place in a world filled with supers. It’s lighthearted, humorous, and overall a good read—especially with the adorable system.(ʘᴗʘ✿)
    Style
As a slice-of-life story, Superflux focuses on the small, everyday events in the MC’s life, making the world feel vibrant and lived-in. The author does an excellent job of setting up the world, making it feel natural and immersive.
    Story
The pacing is slow-burn, but don’t let that discourage you. Each chapter is packed with character development, polishing not just the MC but also the side characters, making them feel real and engaging.
    Characters
This is, without a doubt, the story’s strongest point. The author excels at writing well-thought-out characters who react and communicate in a natural, believable way. Their interactions feel genuine, adding depth to the narrative.
    Grammar
Overall, the writing is solid. There are minor repetitive phrases here and there, but nothing that a quick round of editing wouldn’t fix.
    Cover
This might be one of the most memorable covers I’ve seen. It’s simple yet striking, drawing you in and making you curious about the girl behind the mask.
    I like it!

Anyone who has read Worm knows a superhero novel can be incredible when it's made right. The different powers working against each other are fun to watch, and the consequences of a society adjusting to this new status quo are interesting.
Superflux, even though it has a slower pace, manages to hit a few of the same points.
The main character is interesting to read about, and I think a lot of people can identify themselves with some of Juniper's traits and struggles. Life ain’t easy, and even when the world is going to shit, we still have responsibilities and people to take care of.
Also, it’s a minor thing, but I think Juniper and Euphemia are really creative and evocative names.
The AI has a pretty unique voice, and you'll get a few chuckles out of it.
I feel like some sentences could be better structured, but overall the story flows very nicely. There were no grammar issues I could notice. The narration gives enough time to make scenes feel alive. and yet it isn’t overly descriptive. It’s a nice read.
Even though I started with the Worm comparison, be warned this story has a much lower pace and is telling a completely different journey.
It’s still a very entertaining one. Plus, it has changed covers at least three times since I first checked it, and every cover is more incredible than the last.

I've read a lot of superhero stories on here, some amazing and some not so great. The worst thing they can be is boring, whether from subpar characters or uninteresting powers used in uninteresting ways. I'm happy to say this falls to neither of those pitfalls for me, the characters are more than two demensional for all of the main cast at least. And the power set on the main character specifically is very fun. It's not a perfect story no, with some grammar issues, and a few questionable but not unthinkable decisions by some characters. Overall this story does the important things right and has me coming back to check for updates.

While there are some odd word choices and punctuation mistakes that can bug me on an OCD day, the story is very interesting. I look forward to reading more, and learning what happens next.
I would encourage anyone else to give this a chance and give it a good read, too.

Struggled between leaving a comment on the latest chapter or to leave a review. In the end, I chose to leave a review.
Rather than talking about specific bits of the story, like the plot, character, or grammar, I want to bring up the reader's expectations.
Juniper's shown to be a kind-hearted, loving girl, in need of affection and security. She hesitates to start conflicts, deal finishing blows, and is often foolhardy and stubborn when wanting to help people.
This is fine. It's a valid character trait to have.
What's not fine is how the story is dealing with this. We're not given any indication of what the stance on her character is. Juniper is stubborn, and firm on her beliefs. But the people around her constantly tell her that she needs to be more ruthless and coldhearted, that the world is a bad place and she has to take what she wants before it gets taken from her.
That's a nice segway into character growth and progression. In some stories, the characters learn, they harden their hearts and grow jaded, becoming the person the world wants them to be. In other stories, they stay true to their beliefs, becoming a warm hearth and carving out their own benevolent path, even when the world wants them to be cold and jaded.
And most of the time, there is self-reflection. Growth to be had.
We get none of that here. Juniper tries to be kind. The people around tell her she's being stupid. Juniper gets into trouble or almost gets killed for trying to do the right thing, but she success in her task. Repeat ad infinitum.
What message is the author trying to convey? Is she wrong? Is her stubbornness commendable? Is she supposed to learn to care less? Is her dogged determination to do the right thing a good thing or a bad thing?
Fuck if I know. I really think that the author should throw the readers a bone on what to expect.
Another minor issue I have, spoilered to keep things short:
Juniper takes L after L after L. Not that she doesn't win fights, she wins plenty of them, but

This story tells an engrossing tale of a young woman coming to terms with power, being dragged into worlds of drama and politics, and angsty relationships. However, the writing makes it very hard to read. The author seems to not know how to use punctuation, with excessive amounts of unnecessary and misplaced commas, questions ending in periods or sole exclamation marks. Every other sentence has nonsensical words, random capitalizations, and spelling errors. The author also needs to learn the difference between there, their, and they're. You're and your too. And these issues occur is nearly every sentence. This desperately needs proper editing.

To be honest, the story starts off dark, but great. It does well in doing some worldbuilding and in introducing the dysfunctional family that our MC—Juniper—lives in. But that's as far as I would read, honestly, because everything after is a mess. And I'm not going to get into every itty-bitty thing, because then this review would be too bloated. But to summarize: Characters.
The MC is an utterly miserable doormat, like, ripped straight out of one of those 'pure-absue yuri rape novels' that I have no idea how people can read. But this is not even her fault, it's how she's written. She establishes early on what kind of a person she is, and then takes the next few chapters to completely do a 180 on her personality, just to then get in trouble and kick off the story. Her 'system' is purely antagonistic and soulless, sounding cutesy but serving no other purpose than to make MCs life more miserable while chirping out a few 'jokes'. Of course, MC takes this because she just does, no further acknowledgement.
Then you have literally every other character, which I can simply define as being metronomes in superposition. Everything is so obnoxiously forced, it's not even character development—it's characters being rewritten on the fly without any regard to flow. Literally every female character the MC meets is the same: Nice, but not nice. Yandere, but not really. In love with MC, but also maybe not? Psychotic, but actually no. Bipolar? Maybe I am right now. Is a sadist? Yes, but also no.
Literally nothing, they just flip flop between these modes from one paragraph to the next. One moment the character is kind and empathetic, the next they're exploding with anger and trying to kill MC. And before you think that doesn't sound bad. It is not written in the way you think, it is bad. Everything they do is irrational. Not in a human sense, but in a realistic sense. Every conflict so far has been pure nonsense, in reasoning and in execution. In a story where every single one of your

The story could be interesting, maybe. Too bad the spelling, grammar, and sentence structure are just too atrocious to get through. The writer really REALLY needs to get someone to proofread for them, or to at least take a-bit of time to go back over what they’ve written. In my opinion this story isn’t worth the struggle to read. The concept seems interesting but without a rewrite and some serious editing I would advise passing this one over.
