- AlexanderGRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This turned out to be a great story in a rich world, but it was initially frustrating because the MC is not the typical isekai protagonist. It takes her until a little past chapter 20 to finally commit to getting stronger and accept her circumstances.
So, just be mindful of that. - Bill BelyeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Educational
This story has been a challenging read for me—at times genuinely grueling page by page. And yet, that difficulty has also been strangely educational. It has helped me better understand a certain kind of mindset: the type of person who struggles with resource management, self-preservation, and basic decision-making, even when the stakes are high. In that sense, the book does offer something unique.
However, the protagonist’s choices are often so counterproductive that it becomes extremely difficult to relate to them. Instead of growing steadily in safe, low-level areas, they repeatedly wander into higher-danger zones while unprepared, only to complain about the predictable consequences. It isn’t the “non-overpowered MC” described in the synopsis—it’s a character who actively avoids even becoming competent. They’re given countless opportunities to improve and consistently choose the path that guarantees mediocrity, frustration, and preventable setbacks.
For readers who think tactically or who value survival-minded behavior, this can be painful. Many decisions the protagonist makes feel so shortsighted that even my childhood self would have questioned them. That said, I’ve met real people in real emergencies—storm responses, rescue situations, etc.—who behave exactly like this character: doing the bare minimum to survive, unable or unwilling to plan ahead, and sometimes becoming liabilities to those who try to help them. In that sense, the way the protagonist behaves may be more realistic than most portal fantasies, even if that realism isn’t always enjoyable.
Because of this, I’m pushing myself to finish the book. Not because the journey is smooth, but because there is value in trying to understand a character—and a mindset—that fundamentally clashes with my own. Some readers may find the protagonist relatable; others will find them infuriating. Personally, I fall solidly into the second category, but I can appreciate the attempt to portray a different kin - EyesightsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was hesitant to read this book because of all the reviews talking about the protagonist being annoying and the pacing being slow, but I decided to give it a go and am so glad I did.
It seems that most people can't stand a protagonist that actually isn't willing to casually murder people and creatures to fuel their progress. Reading these reviews after having read up to the middle of book 3 feels really odd now. It's like reading the ramblings of a bunch of sociopaths.
Cass isn't a perfect protagonist. She's stubborn, and fights back against injustice. She's also incredibly resourceful and can adapt to new situations in a way few people ever could. Reading this book is such a breath of fresh air when you're used to the middling quality stories you can find in troves on Royal Road.
Thank you for writing this story, and I look forward to what you'll create in the future! - Jamie_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Main character is too naive, whines a lot, and does not use common sense. For a being a person from earth she doesn’t seem to have developed the ‘main character’ critical thinking skills of earth.
The demon (salos) side character is the the only one with a modicum of understanding on being somewhat low profile and obtaining information, didn’t like his introduction and the 180 the mc does to essentially befriend him.
The second side character (Alyx) is extremely annoying with delusion of grandeur, believe the mc is scheming something to get in her favor with absolutely no evidence.
the power-system specially the way it structured with power control and depth is well thought out, However the fact that the status cream doesn’t show skills is frustrating.
the ideas of concepts isn’t anything new but used well narratively in the story.
the gods and the way Cass was brought to this world are just a means to end to have “conflict”.
character while annoying are well written. while the world building is slow the setting seems to be being fleshed out with the author having a solid idea of what they want to do with the story.
The written style and tone of the story are fairly unique with a touch of the genre cliche touch in the best ways. Grammar is fine with a few spotty parts, but I’m not the one to judge with my own crappy grammar/writing.
I finished the first book and enjoyed about 60-70% and started book 2 and a few chapter in but now realizing this isn’t my cup of tea, but would still recommend giving it a try, the author is clearly talented. - JaricvennRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written, good blend of description, action and emotions giving interesting characters, great world building and a well paced story. The protagonist is likeable, real and a blast.
The system is a unique blend of troupes with a fun twist. The magic is great and doesn't overpower the story
Most isekai tales have an ordinary person suddenly change their personality to justify their actions and there is a truth that power corrupts, but if you don't have a blatant cheat and you are trying to hold on to your humanity while afraid of dying in a Trial trying its best to kill you at every turn - you get a beleivable protagonist that struggles, stumbles. fears, crys and fights to live and hold to her ideals. - remdaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Feels professional. I've found it to be very enjoyable so far. The author clearly puts a lot of thought and even research into their story, and writes well. Dialogue is natural and characters are mostly believable and likable. My only criticism is that in my opinion characters can be a bit on the slow or stubborn side when the author is trying to make a point about the world. The mc has many dilemmas with the circumstances she finds herself in, but when push comes to shove she acts and acts well. Like most people she isn't filled with burning ambition and is pretty passive, but she has a strong will and beliefs. She has humility and a big heart and didn't come already forged in fire, but from the beginning she steps up to the plate every time and puts her doubts and fears in a box until the crisis passes.
- yagathaiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Truly solid from start to finish. The plot is gripping in the parts that should grip and flowing in the parts that should flow, and if it is a bit predictable, it's predictable in the way that old boots are comfortable. Good character work, too. Some of the supporting cast are a bit thin, but the MC and her deuteragonist(s) aren't, and that's what counts.
The pacing is a bit strained in a couple of spots for a novel, but that's to be expected when working in a serial format.
One tiny nitpick: the scale of the dragons is super unclear to me. The way the dragon fight scene plays out, I can't tell if they're like house sized or truck sized or horse sized or like tall person sized. - zoxabelsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really liking the story so far. MC have to earn every skill and power. Well writen, and the pacing is good.
im hoping the MC Will become less indecisive in the future, and that we Will see more storm based skills in the future.
I have high hopes for this story. - tiger112003Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Very readable writing style with no noticable grammar or spelling mistakes, and an interesting setting and system.
Interesting MC that has a good amount of struggle and work to level up. Hard to review the overall story at just chapter 20, but felt this needed a real review due to the quality of the writing. - StolasWhyRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I love the book but I can’t keep reading. I’ve gotten to chapter 64 and it’s just too much of an annoyance that our beloved main character still just outright refuses to believe anything told to her, without it quite literally smacking her in the face most of the time. Like she can totally accept she doesn’t need to breathe and was pull into the void be tentacles but she can’t put together the fact that gods actually exist when she’s explicitly told they do.
