Description

They measure mana in drops. Tyler wields an ocean.

After a lifetime of pain, the apocalypse has come. And Tylerwilladvance — even if it breaks him.

But within this new world of ancient alien ruins and swarms of deadly monsters, he finds mere survival to be very costly — to Awaken, he must forever seal his magic within his failing body, rendering most forms of power completely inaccessible to him.Most.

After all, most humans can barely train for an hour a day before their mana runs dry. With the potential for a body that never tires and a mind that never dulls, combined with the near-infinite pool of magical energy coursing through his veins…

Tyler will grow faster than the legends about him can form.

— – —

Inspired by stories like Savage Awakening, Cradle, and Super Supportive (weird combo, I know)

What to expect:

- (Relatively) fast weak-to-strong progression where the MC’s giant mana pool and self-healing abilities let him train longer and harder than anyone else

- Cultivation-style progression system (very light LitRPG elements, no stats)

- Brawler kind of MC that can only use magic for physical enhancement

- Mostly moral MC who will still stand up for himself

- No harem

Nice read, and has one of the most interesting starts i have ever read. It's different, and a breath of fresh air.
The character is likable, i can root for him over the novel. Worldbuilding is great, and just the story overall is build nicely. The rest of the characters are all fine, and never seen any major grammar issuesss
    well worth the read.

To be clear, I helped beta read this story before it was out on RoyalRoad as I have known the author for years now, and I've always believed that he had the technical writing ability to craft a captivating story with a diverse and interesting cast of characters, and I have to say, he has delivered with this novel.
I will try to keep this review spoiler free, but in my opinion, Stormborn Ascendant has one of the most interesting starts to a LitRPG Apocalypse novel-- bear in mind though, I am not extremely well-read in the genre myself. But from the very first chapter of this novel, there is enough action and excitement to keep me reading even though I am not someone who is typically a fan of LitRPG Apocalypses.
I, personally, love the style of the story, as each chapter is much longer than the average chapter on RoyalRoad. I haven't personally counted each word in each chapter, but they are all extremely dense in content alongside having a high wordcount. I'm also a fan of the prose, but that's obviously quite subjective. And the grammar is perfect-- it's evident the author has done plenty of proofreading with each chapter he writes.
The characters, however, are my favorite part of the novel. It's not just a simple numbers-go-up story, although that is of course part of the focus. There is actual depth to the MC and his actions, especially due to his tragic past. Also, it feels like he actually has to work hard to earn his power, instead of just being given every victory because of plot armor.
All in all, I highly recommend this story to LitRPG Apocalypse fans!

The story has a freshness to it, there’s something about it that sticks out to me. I’ve read dozens of LitRPG and hundreds of progression fantasy stories. And this story still brings something original. The magic system is a mixture cultivation and aspect magic. I think you’ll enjoy your time with this series.

I want to preface by saying that LitRPG apocalypse is outside of the typical genre I read, but wow I am impressed.
For starters, the story revolves around a character who is relatable and seems to have received the short end of things. In addition, the main character having a medical condition that actively hinders them but also promotes growth is aspiring. The progression of the character through the training sequences, and further, isn't completely linear, which I like. It gives the hard work Tyler puts in have a more authentic feel.
Regarding the style, there are several lines throughout the chapters that have made me laugh (I adore the humor parts).
Grammar wise, all the chapters are easy to follow. All of the new diction for the story was fun to learn as well (e.g. resilience-touched banana, journeyman, aspects).
For the character score, I absolutely love our main character, Tyler. As I mentioned before, he is relatable, but also, he doesn't have everything simply handed to him as the main character. I don't want to go into any spoilers, but I really like the dialogue interactions with other characters. Each character feels like their own individual rather than a bunch of characters that are the same but slightly different font.
Overall, I am excited to keep reading this story and any other stories Nulls publishes.

What can I say? I dig it. It's got everything I want in a story. Action, action, and more action. Story go Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! Felt like I was reading post-apocalyptic Skyrim (that's a good thing). I hate that reviews require at least 50 words. The chapters are short, that's ok because I'm playing catch up and my internet is as strong as the story (thumbs up)

This read was a surprisingly great time. I have enjoyed this far more than I thought I would, and hope to see how the story progresses. The character is likable, and the world building is intriguing. I like the subtle LitRPG elements without taking away from the bulk of the story.

Alright, so full disclosure. I beta read this story, so keep in mind I've read a lot farther ahead than chapter one.
But I like it. I really, really like it.
    Story: 5/5
We open with Tyler as an underdog of underdogs. Saddled with medical debt, limited by his physical ailments and framed for a crime he didn't commit, he truly starts off on his back foot.
Made me root for him a lot.
I also like when his first training sequence delves into the details and some of the spiritual nature of cultivation, which some novels miss out on. It made me really damn curious for the world that Tyler's been transported to.
To sum it up, I like this story for its underdog elements, the deep dive into cultivation and its spiritual aspects, the world building and the first fight was good too. Very gritty.
    Style Score: 5/5
The story's prose is very solid, a nice mix of readability with the flourishes that pull me in. Nulls has a flair for language that he knows how and when to use.
    I dig that.
    Grammar Score: 5/5
It's solid, like...what else is there to say?
    Character Score: 5/5
Tyler's been the main character I've been exposed to as of writing, but he's very solid. I find him relatable and super sympathetic. He's got a determination that stand out even among prog protagonists in my opinion.
But I won't glaze him too much, I know character attachment's a very personal thing.
    Overall:
Excellent work so far. I enjoyed my beta read and will keep following!

Loved reading the chapters that were up, was sent over here while waiting on ashborn primordial chapters and have loved it, missed out on the ending but looking forward to reading the released book on Amazon 😁 keen to see what happens and will definitely drop an Amazon review. Keen for the next one

I’ve been enjoying the story thoroughly. It’s got some pretty standard cultivation tropes, a slightly whiny MC, but the tree chapter made up for it lol great work with that one! Pace was a little slow to start, and a little confusing when the storm first hit, some of which I am sure is intentional. How does the neural messaging work without a system? It may be that more clarity comes as the story progresses. World building is really just starting by chapter 22, which is the point I’m reviewing at. Pacing and progression for the MC seems good for now. It is enticing so far and I’ll definitely save to keep reading.

I enjoyed the story while the MC was solo however once he joins a group and starts running around in a party I found myself losing interest.
This is just a personal issue, but I hate group mechanics and an Mc that joins a team. It makes no sense to slow your own growth or give up items that would help you. Just so you can help random people.
