Stories from Talsweil - Calamity

During the 396threcorded cycle, the great country of Rohakohou was struck by a calamity, a mist of corrupted mana so massive that it covered a majority of the country-side. One third of the population was wiped out before the court-magicians managed to trap the mist and prevent more casualties. While the country eventually recovered from the losses, the tragedy remains forever ingrained in everyone's mind. The rest of the world was also shaken by what happened and some countries began taking harsh measures against magic in attempts to prevent corrupt mana from appearing.

Yet, no matter what one does to prevent a calamity like that, the true way to stop mana from becoming corrupt is to know exactly why it happens. This knowledge has yet to be discovered.

One of Rohakohou's great noble-houses, the Faders, are known for their prodigious court-magicians throughout history, one of which supported the calamity's subjugation. It is now the 483rdcycle. The current family-head, Erica Faders, is not as talented as her predecessors but her children show great potential to one day join the court... or well, two of them do. Her adopted daughter Anja is quite peculiar. She is mute and unable to cast any kind of magic much to the disappointment of many...
