Star Wars: Ageless Void [Spies - Progression - Exploration]
Community Rating
Description
ONGOING: (ON HIATUS AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE SECOND STORY ARC, PUBLISHED ON 8/2/2024)
CONCEPT: A spy novel from its inception, this story became a story of deception, progression, intrigue, exploration, and the CULTIVATION of a character I created in the Expanded Universe. Progression and exploration begins in the chapter "The Last Jedi Master," everything before that is the origin story of an Imperial spy codenamed "Ageless Void," who gets caught in a massive conspiracy, and which eventually leads him to his Dathomiri roots, and to studies in the Force, both Light Side and Dark.
SYNOPSIS
3 ABY: On an ice-covered planet, an Imperial spy lies in the snow, dying. Betrayed by his superiors, the ISB spy codenamed "Ageless Void" awakens to find himself injured, alone, and vengeful. Ageless has almost forgotten his name, almost forgotten his Zabrak ancestors on Dathomir. His mission was to infiltrate the Rebel base on Hoth and capture or neutralize Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker, but now Ageless must endure harsh elements, Wampas, frozen wastelands, and a lack of food.
But surviving Hoth and escaping it are just the start of his troubles.
He's being tracked by spies in the Rebel intelligence network, wanted for any information he can give them about ISB's movements. And the Empire wants him dead, so that his true secret can never be revealed. Ageless must survive long enough to reach Cloud City, where he's heard Solo and his friends have fled. But he's got a bigger problem...Lord Vader, commanding his Super Star Destroyer EXECUTOR, is also converging on Bespin, as are a multitude of bounty hunters and Rebel spies.
For fans of The Bourne Identity, Heat, The Day of the Jackal, and Three Days of the Condor, as well as for fans of Legends-style connected storylines, where the deeper lore was explored and given great meaning. With eventual explorations of the Force and Dathomiri lore.

- Green PennRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've always loved a good spy novel, add this with progression and most especially star wars and this is an interesting cocktail I can't get enough of.
The author is an immersive storyteller. He weaved this tale in a way unique to him and comes off as a fresh breath of air to the repetitive fiction here in Royal road.I truly love his style here.
The characters are all capable, have their own unique emotional make-up and feel very original. The spies do spy work and we get to see high octane pulse pounding action here. The scenes don't sound stilted and I will heartily recommend this to any one.
Dive in and you won't regret it - faydaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I dig the mysterious beginning, and Hoth was always one of my favorite Star Wars environments, so maybe I'm a bit bias, haha. But I want to see where this goes. It can be difficult creating a "hook" right off the bat and I think you did a good job. Overall good writing and interesting set-up. On to the next chapter!

Now for the more in-depth review:
Story: Overall, I can't say anything negative here. The author has managed to weave the original saga and his additions together in a way that adds to the original, without altering the events as we know them. The story is quite well paced, with little to no unnecessary filler elements to stretch out chapters. During the first arc, which is the only one finished now, the tension was handled very well, rising constantly until the end. The author did a good job keeping the story from being predictable, I was often surprised by the twists and turns, which is a rarity for this website!
Style: The author does a good job of showing us capabilities, emotions etc. instead of just telling them and the pace and tension is handled quite well. Overall, I would say the style is still a bit simplistic when compared to published works from famous authors, so there is some room for improvement there. But it is not repetitive, overly long winded and the tone is appropriate, so definitely in the top 5% on RoyalRoad!
Character: There are different characters with different worldviews, opinions and beliefs. Each has their own "voice". Character interaction is believable. Character development is also handled well and believably.
Grammar: Nothing to complain about, I didn't notice any grammar mistakes.
Overall: While there is certainly still room for improvement, this is definitely a hidden gem. I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Seriously, stop reading this review and go read the story!
