Split worlds

In a cataclysmic event, humanity's exploitation of the planet's resources resulted in a seismic rift, cleaving the world into two floating halves. The two halves now only remain near one another through a weak gravitational pull. Humans' technological adaptability is what saved them from certain extinction. The rapid creation of these artificial atmospheric domes ensured their survival. Yet society couldn’t survive as easily.

The weight of social collapse bore heavily on them, as families were torn apart and governments collapsed, forcing them to scatter to regain control. The artificial domes deployed on each half protected them from space, yet each person who lived through it couldn't have felt more vulnerable.

The world's once amazing accomplishments, such as spaceships, renewable healthy energy, life-changing medical breakthroughs, and highly specialized weapons; All seemed to no longer matter to the people, as if it was all a waste since, in the end, it was their own ignorance that caused their collapse. Their goal was no longer to sightsee these new planets, but to survive and rebuild lost connections to other humans. The split caused a major loss in many advancements; their satellites in close orbit to the planet were destroyed upon the split, along with many spacecraft and crucial lab equipment.

Now suffering from this major collapse, it is a race against time. Each ecological dome is attempting to gain contact with one another. Each dome is capable of covering a city the size of New York. The domes, made in haste, had failures upon the official collapse, causing many of the domes that were made to fail. So death continued, even after the planet fractured. The next few months will determine the fate of humanity. Would they unite together, reforming what once were tarnished relationships? Or would humanity as we know it cease to exist?
