Description
For the past 30 years, an alien race known only as "The Antithesis" have repeatedly invaded Earth with the intent to destroy humanity. Humanity didn't have what it took to stop them. Then the Protectors stepped in—an advanced race of aliens with near-magical technology, the enigmatic Protectors gifted a small portion of humanity with the power to defend themselves from this threat. Now these empowered humans, known colloquially as "Samurai", are all that stand between the human race and extinction.
Follow Benjamin Miller, a newly minted Samurai, as he navigates a post-apocalyptic world of horrific monsters and corrupt megacorporations. He's going to need every one of his non-existent skills to save his hometown, or die trying.
This is a fanfiction based on Stray Cat Strut, an excellent cyberpunk/aliens story by RavensDagger. This story was originally created for a fanfiction contest held by RavensDagger, and was converted to a full story on Royal Road with his blessing. I do not own, nor intend to take credit for, any of the setting.

- SaintPeterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love Stray Cat Stut and this author has managed to capture the flavor of that series while still having a unique voice. I love that the two characters so far have distinct and well-defined personalities. It's unusual to see such good characterization. The MCs relationship with their father seems like it might be faster fraught.
I hope they keep updating! - tomereaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story jumps right into the action; there's no time wasted repeating information from Stray Cat Strut. One completely normal day, Ben finds himself in the middle of an antithesis invasion. With no training or special skills beyond being a very new samurai, he starts fighting back, first out of necessity to keep himself alive, and then slowly more proactively as he tries to adjust to his new role.
It's hard to give the plot or story a rating at the moment, since there isn't yet a sense of where the story is going to go long term. However, this isn't a criticism. Just like SCS, the story opens with a very long action scene. In lieu of plot, I'm giving the pacing and action scenes 5/5. It's engrossing, and I read it in a single sitting.
The main character feels grounded. Ben is not over-powered, and he's reacting like an average person caught in a terrible, frightening situation. On the other hand, he's also aware that as a new Vanguard/Samurai, he's supposed to be one of the ones fighting back, and I like how the author is balancing this mental conflict. I wish by this point we knew a little more about Ben, but overall, I'm satisfied with where the author's taking this, and I hope we'll get more character information in the long run.
I have no complaints about grammar, and while the style is fast-paced, the author still gives the character slower moments to feel fear and to come up with plans.
I have no problem giving this 5/5 overall, and I recommend it for anyone who liked Stray Cat Strut. - FaultblockRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's always good to see another entry in the fandom, and you don't see plasma used all that often. The tension stays high, and the pacing is even. The characters feel real, and fit all that it occurs in a city, I had that "almost outlet mall" kind of feel. I can definitely recommend it.
