Soul Contractor : Reincarnated as a Magical Beast
Community Rating
Description
After years of fighting cancer, Angela Reid was offered a second life as a magical beast, the only caveat being a "small" mission she should complete for a goddess.
The new body, fur and all, feels natural. The new name, Angel, fits like a glove.
But can he hold onto who he was when his class and the system itself seem so keen on altering his mind? Or should he let go, and embrace a new existence?
"Soul Contractor : Reincarnated as a Magical Beast" is a slow paced story filled with the numerous mistakes and missteps of a person given plenty of power, without any real experience to use it.
Some things to expect.
Swearing
Absolutely Slow Start (bears mentioning again)
There is some fade to black hanky panky.

- KazmuthRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Angel is a fully fleshed and flawed character that you want to cheer on and yet scold for his choices. He's written in such a way though that the growth is fast paced but doesn't seem too forced (unless the system is really messing with him) I also am enjoying watching the world be built around him and him having very real consequences, but aren't unsurpassable blocks.
There's also many light moments to enjoy through the story such that it's an easy and enjoyable read as you follow along with someone who seems well out of their depth, and still tries their best - Kernoel77Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is not a super fast paced story. If you're an action junkey, this might not be for you. But if you're looking for an exploration story of a cool world, with a pretty unique magic system, and a protagonist with identity struggles, you've come to the right place!
I've been really enjoying the story. Watching the main character, Angel, struggle with their challenges has been wonderful. They don't always make good choices, but they try their best to stay true to themselves, and have quite a bit of integrity. I like the way their struggles are portrayed, and I think the story has a really unique take on the system integration.
Overall much enjoyable read! Would recommend - ZimzarinaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed the kind of unique opening on death where it’s like oh you can go on ahead and see what death has in store for you or you can still be you to some extent and work for us. The story starts out with an interesting take on the typical D&D type leveling system and magic. I found the story quickly capturing my interest and included a good amount of humor.
- thetophatvikingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has definitely been one of my most enjoyable finds recently. For me, the premise is a fresh take on the old formula of reincarnation into a world with a system and a mission from a god.The first couple of chapters were solid but after the initation foundation setting I found myself much more captivated then I thought I would at the onset.
The author has done a wonderful job of balancing competeing influences in the MC and setting up struggles to work through for the growth of both character and story. The world building through the eyes of the MC so far has been relatively brief but done in a natural way that has kept me curious and intrigued to learn more. Overall the writing style has been very pleasant for me with hardly a handful of grammatical errors that I've noticed at least.
I definitely look forward to seeing Angel grow, learning more about the world, and seeing the challanges ahead. - archetypenecromancerRoyal Road★★★ 3.0the story is well written in terms of language. The concepts are fresh and interesting. if its your cup of tea go ahead and enjoy. The following are jsut my own personal peeves and gripes. i only mention them because theres a chanve these help the author. i feel really disappointed by how jumbled things are. i understand that the author is trying to make the protagonist vulnerable and relateable but being 35 chapters in it has been the same problem of being controlled by foreign effects of system and mana. He has recieved dozens of upgrades trying to fix this but he has seemingly gained no competence. he is suffused with the instincts of a predator but has the most prey mindset i can find, constant self doubt lack of confidence and general submissiveness despite his instincts being apalled by it. im not saying he should be a monster but surely he should have some kind of agency... he has yet to make a single decision. everything has been dictated he will be directly punished and terminated by the system so he is never going to do anything controvercial or dangerous because thats gg for him even his medium term oath is totally dictated by a lawful good system thats perfectly capable of making him win every fight. the protagonist also has essentially no use to the system. the system can enforce level ups stat distributions and give him all kinds of support and even input a psuedo soul to assume temporary control. he is essentially the soul canvas to have the powers written onto. the entire guild despite being pressed has just started revolving around helping him. the word just needs to be more realistic and the system needs to be less intrusive. regardless gl looking forward to future works.
- madavocadoRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I feel like this story should be a lot more engaging than it actually is. The world and concept are very interesting, with our MC being born into the body of a mana beast and having to learn what they really are so they can integrate with human society
the grammar is good, if there are mistakes i haven't noticed them, and the character seems well thought out and developing without being frustrating, the system of the world is interesting, and the actual writing style is smooth and easy to read
the problem comes from the pacing, and i guess you would call it style
essentially, by chapter 38 we are around level.. 90? but all that has happened so far, in order is: guided tutorial, walk to town, self tutorial, one fight, more self tutorial... and that's literally all. we've been told something may happen in the future but so far no sign of anything actually happening
MC's has got a dozen plus new abilities, changed class, changed those abilities, tried to learn them.. but all of this has just been in a practice ring, they haven't ever actually used them and so far into the story nothing has actually happened
we are told all about what the MC can do but we never actually see them having to use the skills they have and how they actually interact with the real world
the story would be significantly improved with a lot less telling of what an ability would do, and a lot more showing of what is actually happening in the world.. not necessarily more action, but rather more story, less instruction manual
all that said i believe this is a first story, and for that being the case.. well done and keep it up!
EDIT: update at chapter 73, current latest chapter. having read all through this in a single day, unfortunately i won't be giving it a follow.
as interesting as the world is, and thankfully not having been back in the training room since chapter 55 or so (note that we basically never left that room up until then), instead we just get constantly dragged to the god's realm to h
