Description
Ardrestra, ‘The Land Remaining’: here live the last peoples of the world, the humans who survived the fall of the last Great Age—before an undead mage nearly ended all life, wiping every last elf and brun from the planet, and humanity was left to rebuild in the rubble.
In a small village on the edge of humanity, Ato is born, a mage who cannot cast spells, able to sense a beautiful world of magic that he can never touch—a divine error in an already broken world. As Ato comes of age, he learns to want little, hope for nothing…until he befriends Pritii, The Last Elf, a ghostly woman who can bestow mana in exchange for service. Ato pledges himself to a new master, and finds hope again, but with the blessing of magic, comes responsibility: to protect his people, to serve his new queen.
And as new conflict stirs with those who wish to finish the undead mage’s work, Ato will find his faith and spirit tested, as he struggles against the chaos and strife of a world built atop rubble.
A tale of struggle and hope,'Songs for a Silent World'is the perfect story for fans ofFrieren, Name of the Wind, andThe Way of Kings.
This story will have:Slice of life, action, complex characters and relationships, deepfantasy worldbuilding, the rare sex scene, and some really dark moments...It's about:A mage without magic, trying to find happiness in a ruined world.
This will be more of a slowburn, introspective story, while also having lots of action and epic moments. With this story I wanted to explore a lot of topics which are important to me—like mental health, relationships, and how to be happy in the midst of suffering—so expect many chapters to be "slice of life", focused on character development and relationship dynamics. That being said, there will be tons of action as well, this IS an adventure story. (there will also be A LOT of worldbuilding. Like, I'm making up languages and stuff.)
Due to work and other obligations, as well as my desire to keep to a certain standard of prose and storytelling, I will only be releasing once a week on friday, with rare exceptions for the sake of pacing. This story will also beVERYdark at times, tackling topics like addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, and sexual trauma.COVER ART BY:https://bsky.app/profile/lichjuliorra.bsky.social

- Justinwrite2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have the rare privledge of discovering another story in need of love. The prose sings in this book and makes me envious. I love the combination of world building and magic, but more than anything I like the way we learn to empathize with the MC while also seeing how he is different.
small choices like choosing to be happy even though he is always unlucky, or wanting to see his brother who hates him…
It builds a lot of autonomy.
it all feels very novel.
i am eager to shoutout this novel in the coming weeks and share it with my friends. - Mona Whitestone AuritRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When I was a little lass, I used to read a lot of books, mainly fantasy novels. Amongst many, my favorite ones were novels by Terry Brooks: "The Sword of Shannara" and "The Elves of Cintra." I'd hide those books under my school books or notebooks, pretending to study or do homework while I was actually reading.
This is one such story that takes me back to those times, when fantasy books were abundant, unique and I couldn't stop reading.
I wish to one day see this book in physical form, in book stores everywhere. I really think it has the potential to become such a book.
If you're a fan of old school fantasy, give this a read. I strongly recommend it.
