*Author's Note*
I started writing this in-between calls at the station and I draw a lot of inspiration from my experience as a first responder. MC is as close as I could get him to some of the toughest, smoke-diving, no-nonsense people on the planet.(I work with some real badasses and I have always wanted to explore what would happen if we threw one of them into another world.)
Yes to blue screens and RPG influence.
No to harems, shallow motivations, or railroaded plot.
I have had a ton of fun writing this, thanks for giving this one a chance.
Also, final warning, fight scenes will have blood, there are occasional cusswords and puns... There are some terrible, terrible puns.

- rrreaderzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed reading the first book on KU, but debated continuing on RR as it was generally solid, but felt a little uneven and slow at times. I’m very glad I did continue to read. As the world has expanded, and we’ve spent more time with the supporting cast. This story has really bloomed into something special. I can’t wait to see where it goes and how the larger arc is resolved.
- An_ZombieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Absolutely love this story. I started this book 2 days ago and haven't been able to put it down. The action is great, the characters are well written, and the setting is intriguing. Can't wait for more chapters to come out! This is my first review because this story definitely deserves more attention.
- Arctic charRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Main character is a tough but loveable dude that makes the tough choice over and over again. Set in a fun and interesting world, this litrpg takes the important pieces of the genre without over-indexing on the numbers, leading to a very approachable and enjoyable story. The varied cast of characters are full of life, and there’s just enough humor to spice up the chapters.
Would strongly recommend this to anyone who likes a good hero. - RedsFablesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am a picky picky reader but this one grabbed my attention and has not let go. I love that endurance is Tilly's go-to Stat and how it impacts development as a person with real flaws and struggles to his abilities.
The world building is classic with magic and a sinister presence looming and haunting our mc not only in the peripheral but in his face at times. Great balance!
The pace in the beginning is, "Hold on to your britches and hats, here we goooooo!" As the story progress its like opening a book, it gets richer and deeper into the world and all of the characters.
Said characters are diverse not only in species, but character as well. Each with their own voice, thoughts, and ideals.
Overall I highly recommend this if you are looking for an amazing Fire-prone but not mindless pyro- unless we're talking about that time your buddy yeet'd you across a battlefield and you exploded- then exceptions should be made.
Anywhosit, Tilly our MC has real ups and downs. He struggles hard and some of those he wins and others he doesn't, but Tilly has that get back up and at 'em grit that flows so well with his character build and creates the foundation for natural improvement not OPness that fixes everything.
Thank you and hats off to JJHutto for the phenomenal story. I am so glad you took the jump. Your writing is fantastic and I can't wait to read more. 😁 - S1qwemRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Five stars because it’s worth trying at least. It’s better than a lot of other stuff on the site.
The spelling and grammar is good, and the writing style is well done. The world is somewhat generic, however, more a collection of tropes, I didn’t really see anything brand new.
My first issue is that apparently the mc has been revived with a message from god to be as self sacrificing as possible, which cheapens the novel when “heroic sacrifice” is such a strong theme. When it happens over and over again it loses dramatic effect, and the mc basically always takes the “noble” cause of action, because he’s literally been told by god “here, this is what’s right”.
The novel is also extremely stylistically disjointed for me, the plot functions on about 3 layers of gods at any time, and jumps from samurai rabbits to vampiric knights of the round table, a world consuming plague cult, and now a dragon fighting for some other form of godhood? It just feels like new things keep getting shoehorned in at every turn just for the sake of having something new.
It’s definitely still worth trying, maybe it’ll work for you. It didn’t for me though. - SahjertstromRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fresh take on LitRPG that uniquely encapsulates the passions of the author in a way that sparks curiosity and draws you in to want more. Very well written that creates ease of getting fully submersed in the flow of the story. Can’t wait to continue following along to see this story unfold!
- Smilejb4444Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Enjoying this read. Picked it up because it's written by a real fire fighter. Well i believe so anyway. Just being realistic here.
But yeah, not bad. Grammar is cool. Fireman in another world. Inspires me a bit to make fisherman in another world lol. Son of the sea. Nah, sounds like some kind of Percy Jackson movie. - Steven W WhitfieldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not quite a chosen one story, much more a redemption epic then anything else. No spoilers here.
Setting is both mysterious and vast with a fairy tale or mythic legend feel developing that should lead some where interesting.
Some fun manga call outs as well as plenty of scifi Fanboy references. - UnboundMotion-17Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0this is one of the best stories I've read here on RR. The characters feel like people, who screw up often. The main character's main advantage isn't overpowered and solve every issue, and it's kind of a "powerful entity empowers the hero to fight evil" thing, which means against the main threat he's extremely good for his lv, but against anything else he has no advantages he didn't make himself. The treat is established as extremely dangerous from the beginning by drop kicking the empire the MC "arrives" in to death (he shows up outside a newly established colony that they eventually flee to. The character has a unique build I haven't really seen anywhere else. sure I've seen defense focused characters, but only one other character who says screw it to balanced stats like Tilly does, and that person is a magic user (hell difficulty tutorial) and he does this for a reason, and the decision to do it isn't made lightly. I've never seen the author leave a thread dangling that it would make sense to follow up on (a potential one was yanked back into the story a bit ago) There is also a clear, logical direction for the story to go, and it doesn't meander towards it. The characters get mental health breaks. The grammar is great, and the author is quick to fix issues when they're pointed out.
Why are you still reading reviews? go read the story. - johndmRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very entertaining. 12 chapters in and I’m hooked. So, apparently reviews must be fifty words long for some reason. I thought my two short sentences were enough to get my point across but that doesn’t seem to meet the requirements of the evil overlords who operate this site. I’m leaving a review because I think the story deserves the recognition but don’t appreciate being forced to type this much just to be able to support the author by leaving one. Ugh!
