Solborn: The Eternal Kaiser
Community Rating
Description
Kaiser Dios despised the average.
To him, mediocrity was a sin, and the world was a graveyard of wasted potential. He didn’t just rise above it—he crushed it beneath his boots, leaving a trail of shattered kingdoms and broken champions in his wake. His ambition was a wildfire, consuming everything in its path, and his strength became the stuff of nightmares. Men whispered his name in fear, and even the stars seemed to dim whenever he took breath.
But there was one who dared to stand in his shadow. One who met his gaze without flinching: Sabel Stoorm. Once his brother in arms, his mirror in ambition, now his eternal rival. Sabel, whose smile was a dagger sheathed in silk, whose words coiled like serpents, dripping venom into the hearts of those who trusted him. It was he who plunged a rusted blade into Kaiser’s heart, not out of necessity, but out of spite, leaving him to rot in a world that had no use for corpses.
Yet, Kaiser Dios does not die.
Kaiser awoke in a world far greater, far more dangerous than the one he left behind. Here, the skies are alive, teeming with things that should have never touched the clouds, the earth itself hungers for the dead and the sea drowns itself in the bodies of its victims.
Godlike beings walk among mortals, their ambitions burning with an intensity that bends fate itself. They do not rule with wisdom but with appetite, carving their desires into the bones of the world.
They will forge their strongest blades. They will command their legions. They will send their champions. None shall return.
They will raise their armies. They will summon their horrors. They will cast him down a thousand times. And a thousand times, he will rise.

- iamdublexRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book masterfully delves into the psyche of the protagonist, creating a character that is as complex as they are compelling. The writer skillfully blurs the line between hero and antagonist, making the protagonist feel deeply human—flawed, conflicted, and, at times, even unsettling. This moral ambiguity kept me fully engaged, as I was constantly questioning their motivations and decisions, yet still rooting for them.
The story stays true to the genre while offering a fresh perspective through its deep psychological exploration. The protagonist’s internal struggles, moral dilemmas, and unpredictable nature add layers of intrigue, making them one of the most memorable characters I’ve encountered in a while. The writing is immersive, pulling me into every twist and emotional revelation. - BlognaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm still giving 5 stars because in this site anything below 5 is actively detrimental to the rating. I would like to see where it goes.
While I have enjoyed the story, I find 2 main issues.
Tonal whiplash: The premise of the story is quite dark. The beggining showing the same tone. At first when he encounters Aria it is a nice reprieve from all the gloom. All of the sudden after entering the city Kaiser does maybe not a 180 but like 160 in personality. He goes from reserved to like ruthless Goku. Dont get me wrong, its not like there was a pre-established personality, but the prologue sold something very different. You'd think that the overall cheerful cast around him would contrast his personality but that isn't the case. By like chapter 40 he acts like the rest of them. Like he doesn't have an entire life of baggage from his past.
Pacing:
After the rescue it slows down to a crawl. For the next 20-25 chapters it is just banter and quirky character moments. It feels like filler from an anime or something. With the fire power coming in at random.
I find that this problem compounds with the previous one.
This is just what I feel is constructive criticism. Do whatever you like. I am certainly no qualified in any way, like I cannot write anything resembling a good story. Keep going! Don't lose motivation!
- AsteriskAceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Already, the idea of going through the POV of a fallen immortal general is just so interesting.
What begins as a traditional fantasy setup transforms into an incredible character study when our protagonist, Kaiser, awakens with diminished powers in a world centuries beyond his own. First thing I have to praise is the author's prose style: rich, evocative, and brutal when it needs to be. There's this excellent sense of pacing that masterfully captures Kaiser's growing desperation as he navigates this strange new reality while haunted by his past failures.
The story seamlessly blends elements of dark fantasy with progression elements as Kaiser attempts to reclaim his former powers. His encounters with monsters, strange cities, and the enigmatic Aria create this perfect tension between his cold, calculated nature and his growing humanity. Kaiser is an absolutely compelling protagonist. He's ruthless yet principled, powerful yet vulnerable in ways he's barely beginning to understand.
The worldbuilding is phenomenal; the glass forests, towering capital city, and mysterious Liberatoriums feel genuine and lived-in rather than just backdrop scenery. I particularly enjoyed the atmospheric fight scenes as they strike the best balance of visceral, strategic, and genuinely thrilling without feeling gratuitous. The author clearly knows how to write combat that serves character development.
Most impressive is how the flashbacks to Kaiser's former life are integrated so naturally. Instead of slowing the pacing, they deepen our understanding of his character while gradually revealing the tragedy that led to his current situation.
I wholly recommend! This is dark fantasy at its absolute peak! - Maidiac214Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thid is a wild ride through a dark fantasy world full of monsters, and betrayal. Kaiser, is super powerful and kind of scary—but in a cool way. He gets stabbed in the back, comes back stronger, and starts wrecking everything. The story moves fast, the fights are epic, and gorey, the world feels huge and dangerous. If you like intense characters and nonstop action, with a litttle humor sprinkled in, this one's worth checking out.
- Mr.SinclairRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best first chapters I’ve ever read. It throws you right in. Every character, even those mentioned only briefly, feels alive and distinct. The narrative isn’t afraid to leave you with questions. Who is Sabel? Velaria? And most importantly—why?
The ending? Phenomenal. Trust me. Read the first chapter and decide for yourself.
Kaiser doesn’t feel like your typical run-of-the-mill character. He comes across as a real person—someone with a story, with a past. He’s driven and relentless. The same for Aria. Every character seems to have their own personality and voice. Combined with the vivid description, it feels like a movie with good actors.
As for the story itself? It doesn’t seem like your typical isekai or regression-type plot. Honestly, I’m not even sure which tags would describe it best.
The grammar seemed perfect. English is my second language, so I might have missed something while reading, but I was genuinely surprised to learn the author is Serbian and not a native speaker.
Maybe the one thing that’s missing is the occasional internal monologue.
If you’re looking for a descriptive, grimdark story with characters that feel truly alive, this is for you. Your emotions will be taken, twisted, and turned. - KurtjeroRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Maybe I'm calling it too early but when I read a blurb of strong to strongest, dark fantasy, anti hero, epic battles and all i get is some strange spider fight/fever dream followed by 20 chapters and all that happens is the MC gets a haircut, I know you have to build up to things but at the moment not for me
