Style
A great sci-fi setting about a community under the sea. The MC pines to someday have surgery that will let her breath underwater with flashbacks to how her community ended up there. Very easy reading that draws you right in from the get go.
Story
I'm completely hooked. The setting is so unique that I was fascinated. The characters feel like they live in the world, and that draws you into their desires. There are flashbacks to times that set up the reason why there is a community underwater with no support from the surface, and it's done masterfully. This story absolutely has me hooked.
Grammar
Professional quality. Not a single instance of me being pulled out of the story due to a weird phrase or awkward description. The writing is so smooth it just flows along easily.
Character
The characters in this story feel very organic. They live in a unique world yet are so in tune with it that it draws you deeper into their desires and heartaches. And they are very active from the get-go. I was worried that two teenage coming-of-age characters wouldn't have much agency, but they are a whirlwind of moving the story forward. Also, some characters in flashbacks explain how the world got the way it did. Even though these are pretty short, they also feel very grounded and real.
