Description

Leveraging two decades of shared gaming experience and friendship, Nathan and Miguel will literally venture inside a video game that is part RPG, part shared dream state, and part social experiment. As they encounter erratic RPG mechanisms, hyper-real survival systems, and an NPC community gone awry, their sharp wit and deadpan banter will be just as vital to their existence as their growing arsenal of magic and weapons. For two lifelong friends whose roads have diverged, one toward prosperity and the other despair, teaming up to battle the familiar and unknown will demand they reconcile who they were, who they are, and who they will become. Only this journey together, along with alliances made along the way, can save two broken worlds: the one we all live in, and the one they may die in.

Omg, this story is AMAZING and has it ALL! It's like if you crossed the problem-solving and wit of The Martian with the world-building of Ready Player One.
Story: The concept is original, creative and super cool. While I didn't completely follow or love the opening about sports, it sets up the characters' relationship and later chapters really well, so I get why it's there (but readers like me may be relieved to know the book isn't about sports). Most importantly, starting in Chapter 3 it does a fantastic job introducing an intriguing fantasy game world grounded in surprisingly plausible-sounding science, with a mysterious twist that keeps me reading and wanting to know more. And unlike many fantasy and sci-fi stories, everything actually makes sense.
Style: Love it! It is well balanced in its light-hearted banter and deeper scientific/technological discussions. And on top of all that, it's hilarious. Their conversations crack me up and literally have me laughing out loud.
Characters: Three-dimensional, realistic characters. What really strikes me is how authentic they seem -- not just as story characters but as regular people. This author does awesome dialogue. I'm totally absorbed and feel like I'm sitting right there listening to my friends talk and joke.
Grammar: Perfect, professional-level writing... on a whole new level. This seems like a legit author... and then some.
    Can't wait to read more!
