Description
The System needed to make a gamble with its last resources - It would die if things kept going like this.
It decided to contract two people to itself.
[Ismund: stoic warrior frozen in time before his first battle. This User should not be corrupted and have the skills and motivation to fight. His fighting capabilities should grow enough to cover for the small dungeon diving team.]
[Drifa: naive bubbly girl possessing magic lost for generations. After being initialized, this user should be able to defeat and defend against corrupt magic. Issues may occur for the system in the future due to the nature of her magic.]
[End of note J9-28,372,982]
The System opened a file written by a user.
"Just one hundred years ago The System and its people fought against dungeons with vigor and stubbornness. Humans needed to find a way to close the dungeons before the dungeons made the land inhospitable. They wanted to keep from starving, they wanted tolive."
"Conveniently for them,The Sevenappeared like gods and promised a brighter future. These 'gods' had a way for people to become more powerful without The System's help. A way to use magic, a way to eat consistent meals. All they needed to do was merge themselves with a monster and bow to the dungeons. Simple."
"People everywhere were convinced and one by one they touched their head to the dirt for a brighter future. Fighting monsters has become hypocrisy toThe Cult of The Dungeonand a hidden practice of a certain guild."
"The guild wasn't providing enough energy. So, System thought of an alternative."
All The System had to do was hope the gamble was worth it.

- VoicesInTheVoiddRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I don't think I've ever read a story like this before, so this was fun to dive into. (and also my first review) This review is published while the story is being written, so keep that in mind while reading. Spoilers up to the section I've read to. (Rest?)
Character-wise, I think it's interesting seeing two sides of the same idea being used for someone exploring an unfamiliar world, one being Ismund defrosted into a newer world that's changed while he was frozen and Drifa being isekai'd from a comfortable life to dungeons and danger. Right now, the main focus of the book is the interactions between them as they try and understand and learn all these new systems and places and work together despite their differences. I like their interactions a lot, the only issue is I don't think theres many other characters past that. I'm hoping the teases for more come true at some point.
Grammer was pretty good. I think I noticed a few very small issues at times, but it didn't hurt the read for me and it was clear.
The style was also ok, though I think the biggest gripe for me was the inclusion of the System. It just doesn't feel super great as a random psychic robotic voice controlling abilities and powers without having much real personality or reason for existing. If it was a little more personable, or had a bit more lore significance besides existing to give powers and drive the story, it would help a lot. I did like the alternating perspectives between Drifa and Ismund, though. And the inner thoughts are well done.
Storywise, I'd say it's pretty simple as it's going to dungeons to defeat them, get stronger, get revenge. It hasn't shifted much yet, but it's early on and doesn't need to shift all that much yet. My only issue is it's quite slow. There are times when chapters don't have a lot happening or there isn't much to see besides character interaction. It isn't a bad thing to do that, but it helps when the plot is moving at the same pace. That, or I could just be addicted
