Description

Erica Taylor is a graphic designer for a game developer, which in today's world is code for 'AI artist babysitter.' But on the way to a convention she spots a broken down bus under attack from Antithesis, and with no weapon available but her car, the part of her that always wanted to be a hero decides to intervene.

Now she's been selected to become a Samurai, a warrior entrusted with defending humanity from Antithesis by the enigmatic Protectors, but she's also been stranded several days walk from the nearest town with nothing but a ruined cosplay outfit. Worse yet, the nearest town has an Antithesis infestation festering just beneath the surface, readying to devour it whole. Fighting her way in is only going to be the beginning.

This is a Stray Cat Strut fanfiction! RavensDagger created a very fun and interesting world and my desire to write a story set in it rekindled my interest in writing. I cannot recommend it enough.

As an aside, I've deliberately left out a few tags until they have actually shown up in story so as not to spoil things, so the tag list may grow a bit over time.

The writing is great. The characters so far are great. The SCS universe honestly has some of the best fanfic you can find and many of the stories stand well on their own. This is one of those so far. Blazed through thirty chapters in an evening. Looking forward to reading more!

Im greatly enjoying this story. It gives a different view of the fight against the antithesis. It doesn't show the Samurai as being able to just mow them down, it’s more hard won fights and having to actually think and plan or get hurt and learn. I find myself nodding along with the things Erica does more often than not, though I do think the poor girl needs a proper melee weapon for the amount of times she gets tackled by model 3s or 4s.
its more gritty realism than magical girl meets cyberpunk dystopia and that is really clicking with me. The references to different games are funny and do a lot to give the story some chuckles and give it a good counterpoint to its more gritty side. The AI is also quirky in a way thats both funny and creates a distinctly different character and idea than what i would expect and i quite like it. I would heartily recommend this story to anybody who likes other stray cat strut fan fictions.
4.5 on grammar due to light issues in spelling or needing a small word replaced such as to for do or similar, but nothing a light edit for spellcheck couldn’t fix. but honestly it isn't anything that really gets you, unless you look for it.
All in all, great book so far, cant wait to read and enjoy more.

Over the past week I have binge read several SCS spin-offs, most of which are as good or better than the original. This one is my favourite, probably because the Halo flood parallel occurred to me too and I would have been trying to kit out Mjolnir from the get go.
I'm just waiting for them to head into the mountains and find a waterfall so Juny can say "You always take me to the nicest places!"
Then we need a sergeant to give us a tank.

This is overall pretty good, but so much of it is focused on cosplay/homage to a few specific (famous, and popular, admittedly, but ones I never played) video games that if (like me) you never played them or did and don't care much, you might feel a large amount of the text is kinda pointless. Soo much halo focus in descriptions, choices, reactions. I never played that, so it's very much "inside baseball" to me, and there's a lot.
Eh, not a bad story, and if you liked the games referenced maybe it'll amuse you. It's otherwise a pretty good riff on the SCS idea. I actually liked the idea that the MC is a cosplayer and that influenced their choices, there's just a lot of it and it's pretty opaque and seems like filler if you don't get/care about all the many, many refs.
Still, fun otherwise.
