Description
To Velos Rendhal, a sacrifice must be earned in full. The Slayers Division is a guild where slayers dedicate themselves to preserving the balance of nature and protecting humanity from monstrous threats, and Velos is one such aspirant. As Velos ascends through the ranks of the Division, he assembles a ragtag unit of eccentrics, explores the delicate ecology of the known world, navigates the Division’s political landscape and faces off against terrifying foes of the natural and unnatural variety.
—
Slayers Division is a progression fantasy set in a medieval fantasy world where humans are at odds with deadly monsters that occupy and threaten the ecosystem. A guild named the Slayers Division trains humans to become slayers in order to fight against monsters that endanger the lives of humans. The story centers around Velos, a young physician who quit his career in medicine to become a slayer.
What can you expect as a reader?
Grounded ecology and natural world— The monsters of Antea are more akin to beasts of the natural world than they are malevolent threats. Understanding their physiology, behavior and quirks can be integral to taking them down. While the Slayers Division will not engage in hunting monsters for the sake of hunting them, some creatures pose more danger to humanity than others.
(Very) low magic— Slayers must rely on their wits and technology to survive against threats that greatly overpower them. The series’ combat puts an emphasis on tactics, utilization of technology, and preparation.
Character focus— Each character has a deeply-rooted personal drive for pursuing their work. These characters will be challenged not only physically, but mentally and ideologically as the story progresses.

- MaewynhRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not a fan of the Monster Hunter games. So others will judge if it scratches that itch. They never were my cup of tea, but I do like a lot about these eleven chapters I read so far.
So what do I like? When I feel like there is an ecology and an organisation that attempts to think things through. Slayer's Divison feels like an earnest attempt at building a world that makes sense. That is pretty nifty.
Another nifty thing is the pacing of action sequences so far. Fights are fast, often lethal, and failure lingers — that has style.
The style of the reports and notes? Pretty cool, too.
What is not so cool? The dialogue, characterisation, head-hopping and dialogue markers need some work. But that is fine, and so are many other minor issues. The author has plenty of space to grow, and what I've seen to date is promising. I like this, and I want more of it. Because I want more of it, I'll be charitable with my rating. - MetalMorpheusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I feel like you will become a good writer if you just stick with it.
The story introduces the character, the world, and also the what I assume will be the main driving force. That is to say the rising though the ranks of Monster Slayers.
The skills will be sharpened in time, only remember to cycle out the story in such a way that there is always someone that is threthened or in danger. Be it random people the the charaacter is meant to protect or just people around him.
If the main character reaches a sertain level of power, but the monsters don't get stronger, the story could stagnate. But if the story only becomes about devising tactics to 'slay' stronger monsters it could get repetitive. So getting a different POW, even if from the view of the main character he is slaying a weak monster, as long as that POW is threatened and undergoing a story arc that will keep the story fresh.
Ovbiously there need to be a stong main story to cary all these along, but on a arc to arc basis this advice still applies.
Cheers. - IcebuRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Style: I like the down time between quests, it gives information about the world and the organisation in the story without being an exposition dumb. It's always centered around the characters.
Story: Again, due to the down time between quests, the pacing feels really good. We get just enough action mixed with exposition. Minor inconsistencies such as the alpha darau and how often they seem to lead packs of lesser darau. Author seems hesitant to re-write and fix things, could go from good to great!
Grammar: various tense issues throughout, nothing major but noticeable
Character: While I don't like sterling's personality, it isn't badly written, just a not a character I'd want on my team. His strengths don't out weight his lack of self control, planning or forward thinking. Another party member could help balance him in the future but Velos doesn't have the backbone to put him in place.
