- PikaAndrewRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is honestly so wonderful and seems that a lot of planning has gone into this and it's proving fruitful the characters are well done and the MC is awesome and like the way his character is and love the long great foundation that is set from the very start!
- Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0**Overall:**
Slay Hero introduces readers to a captivating LitRPG world, blending elements of action, mystery, and fantasy. While it excels in delivering non-stop battles and a unique power system, there's room for further character development and exploration of the overarching plot.
**Style:**
TyZombo's style effectively sets the tone, with good word choice and a unique approach. The narrative, written in the third-person past tense, moves swiftly, relying on straightforward language that complements the action-oriented story. While the descriptiveness is on the lower side, it enables a quick and engaging reading experience.
**Story:**
The pacing of the story is commendable, offering non-stop action from the early chapters. However, the plot leans heavily towards continuous battles, lacking a clear sense of progression through a larger narrative arc, this is something that could improve or change as there are more chapters available. The world is teeming with potential, and readers are left eager to explore more of the mysterious tower and its dangers.
**Grammar:**
Minor grammatical issues are present but don't disrupt the overall flow of the story. TyZombo maintains a consistent tense, contributing to a sense of suspense and mystery.
**Character:**
Shin, the main character, possesses a likable and knowledgeable demeanor. The summoning of angels adds a unique element to the story. However, there's a need for more character development, as the narrative, dominated by action, leaves little room for a deeper exploration of Shin's personality and motivations.
In conclusion, Slay Hero offers a fast-paced and action-packed LitRPG experience. With a focus on character development and a more defined overarching plot, it has the potential to evolve into an even more compelling and immersive tale. - One Way JusticeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall score: 5 out of 5.
A seriously dark story (the tags aren't lying for once)... but if you get into it with that in mind, it's a hell of a ride.
Shin, our protagonist, has been confined to a single room for 4 years... enough to make anyone go crazy. Added to that, he has a unique power that makes people afraid to be around him - he can draw people into a deep, frightful trance. Nurse Fuyumi in particular does not relish being close to him! Naturally, family relations are strained and tense... Shin's siblings are stand-offish or worse (how would you be!!), except for Yuna, the only one who shows his some genuine affection.
Style score: 4.5 out of 5.
The prose is dense and paints a vivid picture. What I like particularly is the regular attention to psychology and introspection (more on that in character section). The writing flows well and augments the story in all its darkness.
Grammar score: 5 out of 5.
Nothing to report in the ways of spelling errors. Story reads well.
Story score: 5 out of 5.
I like the story! Political and familial intrige woven around a core of supernatural destabilization! Every scene radiates a tenseness that is only natural, given Shin's awesome powers.
Character score: 5 out of 5.
The interactions between Shin and his siblings are all believable, given the backdrop of his peculiar talent. Renzo, Mai, Yugo, and the rest all act like you might expect them to, adding to the complexity and the natural-feeling vibe of the story. - The ChaliceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Our main character is a mysterious one and we only get a glimpse of his previous life before he falls victim to one of my favorite tropes: Getting dumped at the bottom of a dungeon. Though, assuming the tower gets worse as it goes up, this actually works in his favor this time. That said, the danger he is thrown into is serious. Not just the unfamiliar new world, but the people around him. Some can be trusted and some not so much. The beginning builds up a lot of tension and it was satisfying to see Shin brute force his way though his problems with brain and braun.
Story: The towery aspects of this story are still shrouded in mystery, but I am enjoying seeing the dungeon come to life. The beginning sets the stage with multiple groups of people being sucked into the same place, trying to figure out how to survive with their new powers and navigating the social dynamics of such a tense situation. The story is driven by the utter lack of safety, forcing them to progress whether they want to or not. I found these pages quite easy to turn.
Style: The style is fast paced and while it places you behind Shin, his thoughts are often closed off to us and come in pieces. We’re pulled along as the mysterious protagonist navigates this unknown place and it was a really engaging read. The system at first seemed like it could get muddled with ten different stats, but the author handles it in a way that’s not so overbearing. It takes a subtle, but important role and is written clearly. I thought the skills and different roles were interesting as well.
Grammar: The sentences flowed nicely and the few bits that were unclear were simple enough with context clues. There were a few spelling and grammar errors, but nothing disruptive.
Character: Shin is as mysterious as the tower. I even went back and read the first chapter again because I thought I missed something, but it just deepened my understanding of how beautiful the guy is. He’s reserved, but calculating. I’ve yet to decipher hi - LitRPG AdventuresRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good start from a new author. I saw some suggestions were already implemented which is an amazing part of this community. Readers helping authors make things better. The results can be amazing and I can't wait to see where this story goes as it's clear the author cares about feedback.
Style score 5 / 5: There are a lot of RPG elements included in the story, but they don't take over. The information shared is relevant and not repetitive (you don't have to worry about tedious blow by blow notifications). So, if you enjoy RPG elements (and what LitRPG reader doesn't?), I think you'll like this.
Story score 5 / 5: It's still early, but so far so good. You definitley get thrown right into the story and there isn't a lengthy backstory before the RPG part kicks in. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.
Grammar score 5 / 5: I am definitely not a grammar snob, mainly because I don't know all the rules. As long as it flows well and I can understand what's happening, I'm happy. This story does that so, to me, the grammar is great :)
Character score 5 / 5: It's early and there hasn't been much time to see the character develop. That will come as the story progresses. I think the main character is right where he should be at this point and I look forward to seeing him grow and change. - LleayaaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Might I say that this is truly the beginning of a great story. I’m not super versed in litrpgs but I can tell that this book is gonna do well. As an action fanatic I find myself drawn to this books theme.
Style
The authors style is nice and unique. The pacing is smooth and I didn’t find any of the initial parts of the story to be rushed. The only reason that I can’t give it 5 stars is because of some re-used statements. Ive noticed a couple areas where similar things have been said and it gets a bit jumbled. Other than that i’d say its very well written and has an excellent touch.
Story
This story is action incarnate. Some may find the lack of plot an issue but I don’t think thats a genuine fault. If you want a story that has more jabbering and plot development then this one isn’t for you. I find the nonstop action quite epic.
Grammar
Honestly I think I found one miss placed comma and that was it. I don’t know if the author is the ceo of grammarly but this book is spotless. That or they have one hell of an editor. Its a perfectly smooth read.
Character
The characters are fun and enjoyable though they kinda lack personality, that may just be me. Obviously the best is the mc which feels really flushed out and complete.
Overall
If you love action then I guarantee this is for you. - EstanforthRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5recommend, but the number of grammatical mistakes is increasing as of chapter 39.
Continuity annoyances:
Examples:
1. They have arms, armour, interspacial bags, and potions just randomly. As readers who like the genre, we know they were given this stuff, however, it's extremely annoying how it's not addressed before it starts popping up randomly.
2. The coinage isn't mentioned until MC starts spending with gold coins we never knew existed.
3. Chapter 23 excerpt:
[Ring of Improved Healing - Rare]
‘Improves the efficacy of healing abilities twofold.’
Shin equipped it on his right index finger. The effects were immediate and obvious, despite the description of ‘moderate’.
Moments like this make me feel like it's a translated novel. It doesn't say 'Moderate' at all...
4. We're told he picks inscription without a second thought because of a single word but not what the word is. Also, I looked over it and nothing jumps out.
5. Chapter 39 excerpt:
“Regulars won’t matter that much when we go, how much superiors and elite mobs?”
“One variant. We only fought about 20.”
“That what you call the 25% or 50% mobs?”
“25.”
“We called ‘em greats and lords.”
“Shutup. We should decide on one set to keep things simple.”
“It’s variants and elites.” Grenda said from her chair in a bored tone.
Yen looked over and then at Shin, whose natural casual face somehow seemed like gloating, annoyance finding hers. “Fine. And we should use low, mid, and high for the ranks. It’s faster.”
I know he used Variants prior to this so is superiors a mistake?
6. Chapter 39 he gets taught more about inscription but one of the topics of brands that he was asked about by the same person was replaced by crests while brands become a sub thing.
It feels like the author is adding things and changing things as they are needed
Despite what I wrote in the Spoiler, I did binge all 39 chapters so this is an easy recommendation as long as you don't mind the tags and take the warnings seriously enough. - Florian HannemannRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: The writing style is evocative, providing vivid descriptions that paint a clear picture of the characters and their surroundings. The dialogue is well-crafted, revealing the complex relationships and dynamics within the family while still staying relatively fast paced and believable.
Grammar: There are no major issues. A few sentences that could be structures slightly different, but really only a handful in the five chapters that I've read.
Character: The characters are distinct and well-defined, each contributing to the unfolding story. Especially with the dialogue the author does a great job of conveying the relationships of the characters and their underlying motivations. Despite the strong conveyance of said characters, I still found this point to be the weakest somewhat, simply because I found the MC somewhat lackluster. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't really emphasize with Shin.
Story: The fiction is action paced and dynamic. There is action scene after action scene after the first few chapters. If you want an engaging fast paced read, this might be for you. There is also a lot of family drama and interpersonal issures woven in as well to provide the story with a certain depth.
Overall, the story is a promising and enthralling read that combines elements of fantasy, mystery, and familial drama. The author's ability to craft a compelling narrative and create a richly textured world bodes well for the continuation of the story, leaving readers eager to unravel the mysteries that lie ahead in Shin's journey - Azure MessiahRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0At first, I rated Slay Hero a 3.5/5, but after reading past chapter 4 and the goblin fight, I gotta give it 4 stars. There is a lot of world to be explored, and I can tell. The main MC, Shin, is meh. You show a high sign of red when you write, while maintaining purple and everything you need to be a great author.
I did not, in fact, have to read anything back. That means this story can be binge-read. I ran through four chapters, and it was fun. As I told you before, it's cohesive; that's you'll be rated highly. It is unstandable, but very standard with a cool story; nothing really jumps out, but I would need to read on. Usually, you can tell within the first 5 chapters, that's why I'm waiting.
The power system is interesting to say the least. It's a litRPG so I get the video game mechanics, but we're using magic, I don't think the eyes or elbow needs statlines. In all seriousness, Shin starts off with so many powers and I feeling he's going to have a lot more. How many Stat boosts, power boost, powers do you need? All while doing invocation, it's a little much for readers I feel like.
Keep killin' it! - EnlightenedPlayer2Royal Road★ 0.5The first 26 chapters of this story (which equate to a large number of pages), are non stop action and bbbrrrr number go up. There is hardly any worldbuilding or character information given at all. There is also hardly any information given on the main character's thoughts. 90% of the story up to this point is iust describing fight scenes and training montages.
The mc is built to be super mysterious, which just makes you care less for him. Combine that with the lack of any important plot / setting information, and there's no reason to care for the story at all. I suppose if you just turn off your brain and watch the status numbers go up then you may enjoy the first 26 chapters.
