Description

Seras Cross was born on the dying dystopic world of Ruin, with no backing, with no future, and no hope. Against all odds she has risen through the ranks of the world of mercenaries and guns for hire to stand at the very top. A living legend who even the distant corporate elite respect.

All that changed when the greatest job of her career went wrong. Robbing a research station in Ruin's outer orbit should have been the greatest feat of any Merc, but when an accident aboard the station creates a dimensional rift Seras' life takes a turn for the strange.

Magic, monsters. underground cities, and a whole new world to explore. Seras awakes within the high Magic world of Pallimustus with nothing in hand but a strange data shard called a Technology essence and her own cybernetics.

To survive her old world Seras had to be hard, had to put morals and altruism behind , but now she must change and adapt to a world of adventures and Gods.

"To be a Merc is to walk hand in hand with Sin and Misery, nothing behind but blood and death, nothing ahead but glory and fame."

What to expect. A cyborg mercenary from a unique world inspired by Cyberpunk2077. This is a mature story set inside Shirtaloon's He Who Fights With Monster's universe, expect swearing, nudity, mature themes, and violence. Expect to see Seras go from a cold-blooded killer to an upright adventurer while remaining true to herself. All of this is meant to conceivably take place within the He who fights with monster's universe without infringing on the cannon story.

A well done mash of a cyberpunk cyborg in the world  of pallimastus from HWFWM.  I appreciate that it is telling a totally different story but keeping a few of the key points, such as outworlders always being trouble magnets.  Thoroughly enjoying it and would definitely recommend it to fans of either of the source materials.  The world of HWFWM is well set up for long stories and I have high hopes for great things from this story.

Getting the negative stuff out of the way first.
I haven't read a single chapter without several glaring grammar mistakes. In the early chapters there's a lot of edit suggestions, but the author either doesn't care or forgets about them. Either way, It really needs a pass over to get that fixed.
Secondly, the MC lacks agency and I don't like that. It's never fun to read. The reason I believe she lacks agency is that she had a indefinite debuff straight out of the gate that puts a hard cap on how strong she can get until she somehow finds a undetermined fix that doesn't exist yet. That's forcing her into a specific direction and to depend on a specific group of people for her survival. A group that seem to be 50/50 in either liking her well enough or disdaining her.
    Now, for the positives.
I'm unfamiliar with the original work this story is based on, so the magic system is new and fresh to me and I like it a lot. It kinda reminds me of The Mother of Monsters but isn't quite the same.
The world building has been pretty neat so far and I have a easy enough time picturing the cities and areas described.
The characters feel alive and 3D, with their own emotions, backgrounds and motivations for doing what they're doing.
All in all, a pretty decent story. Just needs some work with the grammar.
Update: The grammar is somehow getting worse and the MC seem to just be thrown into one situation after another where they have zero recourse and have everything dictated to them. Constantly from the frying pan into the fire.
I had hoped it would become better with time, but it seems to be trending towards just getting worse.

Author very deliberately breaks the source material in order the force the plot in a specific direction, and remove MC agency. Other than that it's not bad, the characters seem well written tho with unnecessary aggression considering how worldly they supposedly are. but I just can't forgive violating the source material of a fanfic in such a way.
