- BudgiePRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is still in its early stages, so there isn't a whole lot to discuss other than so far, so good.
We're still waiting to find out what the main conflicts/stakes of the story are. I hope it will be more meaningful than simple slice of life type challenges/shenanigans.
The "cat is out of the bag" scene has yet to occur. I hope its not too far away. So, with that in mind, there isn't much to say regarding characters and their development because we still barely know them. I find myself racing through the prose written about the dragon sitting around with not much to do, waiting for something to happen, or meandering from Point A to Point B. I'm still not super convinced of the way the main(?) human character is reacting to the revelation that there is a dragon hiding out in the Colorado wilderness. He seems way too calm about it.
With all this considered, there is quite simply nothing to subtract stars from the rating. Competently written so far - just waiting for the story to pick up. - Elmir - Arch Ham of OmegaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It would've been all too easy to start off the story like it was Cloverfield or Godzilla where you have a spooked fantasy-world monster emerge from out of nowhere, accidentally knocking over buildings and wondering what's going on. Hell, it doesn't even need to be anything gigantic, there's movies like "The Encino Man" where Link, a thawed caveman, trashes some guy's house out of confusion.
It's refreshing to see our main character do neither of these things. It's so rare to see authors like these treat these characters as having a brain. Even more refreshing to see a dragon not act like she's above them all.
You know the last time I saw something like this?
Gulliver's Travels. The 1970s rotoscoped animated film. (I know there's a newer "adaptation" but I only watch Real Cinema. I won't apologize for having and maintaining My excellent standards.)
Now as for the rest of the story: Roger from American Dad is generally around human-sized and humanoid in form, Tohru from Kobayashi's Maid Dragon can pose as a human, and Scorch from the series of the same name is rather small. These characters can reasonably blend in with the rest of mundane Earth.
How do you do that when you're fifty feet tall and a wingspan that I'm guessing is just as wide if not possibly wider? Also, our dragon has naively flown about in a world with Gestapo surveillance and I'm calling it: there's going to be sightings and like Alf she's probably set herself up for some trouble well before she knew about it. It's an ingenious way to set up future tension without sounding so contrived.
At the time of writing there's six chapters and it sounds promising already. Engaging would be the word I would use since it didn't feel like six chapters due to how excited I was to see how it was going to unfold... - PixelpamperRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Over the course of the chapters I have read, I have taken note of the love, passion and creativity that zombie has whenever he has posted or worked on one of these chapters. He holds a great amount of scrutiny in both himself and his work and I must say that it leads to a better overall product even if it takes longer than most people can wait for. Godspeed zombie
- theaveragehumanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far this has been good, keep it up. The grammar has been good as far as I can tell, the premise is also interesting. Taking dragons from DND is fine as well, it is a decent system they have so it is understandable why one would use it. Aside from that the characters have been fine, the MC is good though I find it a bit weird how fast the human accepted the existence of a dragon but that isn't unexplainable. So yeah I will be looking forward to more chapters.
