Every year, Tobias returns to the sea with his friends for fishing.

When Tobias and his friends haul in their latest catch, the Harbor Master reveals a horrifying secret—the barrel is filled with a thick, oozing black substance that should not exist. As they trace the source, Tobias begins seeing things in the water: warped silhouettes, impossible creatures, and eyes that watch him in his sleep.

But the threat from the deep is only one part of a much older conflict.

Grayland, an isolationist nation of impossible technology—has begun to stir. Tobias once survived an encounter with its zealots in the police academy, where he met Avaron: a steel-bodied prophet who “ascends” his followers by tearing away their flesh. Now, as nightmares bleed into reality and the black substance spreads, Grayland turns its gaze on Tobias once again.

Cities fall under attack. Old rivals rise from centuries of silence. The tide flows in black. Bringing disastrer on the waves.
