Shroudwarden Charred-Threads-and-Fresh-Blood Iteration VI has lived its fair share of lives, though they were frequently cut short. Be it semi-annual invasions by alien monstrosities, running from the predations of great subterranean beasts, or– the most dangerous challenge of them all – dealing withotherpeople, Charred VI would sooner or later find itself staring down the sharp end of a sword – be it proverbial or otherwise.

Thank The Thousand-Thousand Fecundities its kind were blessed with the means to sidestep death, in a sense.

But as it is getting used to its seventh iteration, the world it has grown accustomed to over its cumulative decades begins to change. Whether said change is for good or ill remains to be seen, but change is ever tumultuous and Charred VII can't be certain it will make it to Iteration VIII.This is my submission for Writathon 2023, and my first published fiction on RR.
