In a world where fire is power, wizards are useless, and demons follow the rules, our protagonist sets off on what is really just supposed to be another in a long string of errands for the woman who owns his soul. He quickly realizes he's got more than he bargained for as the forces of Heaven and Hell converge to shuffle one particular mortal's life around the board like an errant poker chip.
