Description

Far away from the planet Earth, long after it was conquered, a shedling was given to a human woman.

Killerie never found out why her parent species didn't want her, and her abilities were hobbled by their technology, but that has never stopped her from trying to be the best person (and the best daughter) she possibly can. Follow her on her adventure alongside her mother Madeline as she finds out who she is and where she fits into this universe... and why her own species, the shedlings that rule the universe, were unable to take care of her.

I came from Infamous, and find here the same spirit. A sweet slice of life story with a kind of naïve insect who manage in some way to be cute. The truth about the MC looks relaly intriguant, but i wonder if, or when the story gonna continue... Anyways this story deserve this note.

It is a very cool story about a giant centipede acting very cute. While not having much at the moment, I am sure it will get longer and get even better than it is now. Definitely not the story I was expecting.
This is just for word count. I have said all that I wanted to.

Killerie is one of the cutest alien overlords put to fiction despite being several hundred kilos of centipede. Despite the uneasy and ominous undertones in the background and setting, the main characters are just delightful with Shedling being a delightful slice of life that I heartily recommend.
Sadly the story died an early death as many of Angry Spider's stories do, but hopefully they will one day return to it.

This is an amazing book so far. I'm only at around Chapter 8 when writing this but seeing this story is so good I hope that the autho updates or come back to it eventually.
The characters are all easy to remember and how they act and talk is really easy to understand.
There's also that bit of mystery that comes with space and sci-fi stories but that just makes it that much better for me.
    Well done.

The quality of the writing and the interesting premise mean this has potential. The well realised characters in a beautifully described world are a good start, now we just need a story to go with it, there have been hints of the greater universe and I am excited to see that fleshed out and to see our protagonist's bouncing take on it.

I’ve read five chapters and the prologue so far, so I think I can give a solid early review for Shedling. First off, I want to say that it’s a difficult thing to do, because I feel that we have a lot to see coming up. But so far the story is a slice of life concerning Killerie, an alien centipede and her human mother Meredith. Up to this point, it’s been a very cute slice of life story, and I’m really quite surprised at the nuance in this story, which gives it a feeling of depth.
There’s some interesting hints concerning the economics of the Shedlings who rule the universe, but also, there’s been little moments of tension that have hinted at a somewhat dark undertone, and I admit, I don’t know if the author intends to pursue that direction or not, or whether the tension has come because I care about Killerie and her mother enough to fear for them.
I feel like we’re going to end up with an epic space opera for some reason. I could be wrong, I just hope nothing happens to Killerie and her mom.
The writing is very good. Now I’m not great at spotting typos, but there have been a few tiny things with the text, such as in this last chapter where the sentence reads “fifteen or fourteen meters tall” which, technically there’s nothing wrong with that, I’ve just never seen numbers put from a higher to lower descending order when guessing the height of something. I write this in the review not to draw attention or complain about it, but to elucidate the rare an tiny bits that stand out. It’s almost not something that should even be mentioned.
The author is also very descriptive, able to paint a scene that makes me feel like I’m experiencing the story. And on that note, the descriptions of Killerie the centipede and how her body functions, is very believable.
Angry Spider really is a great writer, and I’m looking forward to see where this story goes. Even if it is purely a slice of life drama that does not end in exploding starships and big wars revolving around Killerie and Me

I'll be blunt. Angry Spider has talent when it comes to writing. There is a noticeable and consistent quality to their works, even when I'm not a fan of the plot or tone. Shedling continues that trend.
This story is firmly sci fi, with some interesting concepts and seems to be building up to higher stakes. But also, it's a character story focusing on identity, family, fitting in, heartbreak and wholesomeness. It's still early days but the combination is mixed in a way that feels completely organic.
It's cute, it's interesting, it's sad, it's hopeful. If you're on the fence, I'd give it the first three chapters. Even if it's not your cup of tea, the high quality of the writing makes giving it a chance anything but painful.

This story and author are a pleasant relaxing surprise in the land of Royal Roads non-stop adventure and murder hobos.  The story focuses on the day to day growing up issues of a strange pairing.  An stunted, perhaps purposely so, alien from a culture of technological overlords is given to a human who wanted to adopt.  The writing is sweet and like a warm blanket on a rainy day.
Style is paced slower than most stories, exploring interactions with grace and a bit of caution as the character explore their own little world.  The authors ability to capture teachable and heartfelt moments is a delight.
Story - amidst the interpersonal story the author hints at a large arc, introducing culture, society, and even technology conflicts that may become relevant.  This keeps the readers speculating and coming back for more.
Grammar is cool.  No spelling, grammar, of clarity issues to slow the reader down.
Character is where it's at with this story. The shedling and mom characters are well developed and interesting.  The dialog between them is awesome.  Their actions are rational and well thought out.  The setup is going to drive lots of interactions with the public and between characters that is bound to entertain.
Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Shedling is an slice-of-life story about a human mother and her adorable adopted telekinetic giant alien centepede daughter. If that sentence doesn't make sense to you, read the story to find out how it works. The story is mostly about Killerie, who was outcast by her species for unknown reasons, and her difficulties in forming friendships with the humans around her. The mystery of the reason for her adoption forms the slowly-mounting background conflict of the story, which provides satisfying momentum to the sometimes-boring slice-of-life genre.

Disclaimer: I am a beta reader for this story. Even though I am trying to give an unbiased perspective, this review is likely to be biased anyway.
    Premise
As a baby, Killerie gets adopted by Madeline. She grows up never having known her real parents. Like all humans she lives a docile life, most aspects of it carefully curated by the shedlings that have conquered all of humanity. Only... unlike her mom Madeline, Killerie is not human. She is one of those shedling.
    Story
This story takes on a difficult challenge. We’re starting off with a soft coming-of-age premise intermingled with themes of racism and prejudice. Because of this, there is little in terms of clearly stated goals or ambitions at the start.
This is clearly intentional. It’s a story that thrives much more on gradual buildup and great characterization than on explicit, in-your-face plot. The early parts have a strong slice of life feel, albeit heavily sprinkled with hints of the overarching narrative. If you prefer a strong plot-driven narrative this might turn you off a little.
Persevere past the slow start, or simply look a little deeper, and you’ll probably be in for a treat though. The story uses one of my favorite storytelling techniques. Lots of subtle clues and hints are strewn around that you only really notice when you’re paying close attention. So while we’re not really aware of where the plot is going yet, the author is clearly planning something. There is a steady buildup of halfway-hidden plot threads, with a lot of thought being put into how everything will come together.
This makes me hopeful that patience will be rewarded, and that we’ll be granted some nice surprises and plot twists along the way.
    Characters
The characters are where this story really shines. Everything is told from the perspective of Killerie, who is an adorably cute giant killer centipede. Her childlike naivety simultaneously wraps you in a warm blanket of happy feelings, and makes you feel cold and horrid dread at the
