Liam's promotion to the rank of apprentice within the mage's guild means that he's cleared for fieldwork. On his first official mission, he discovers an ancient shadow spirit from another realm, and becomes its unwilling vessel. He needs to learn what the creature wants and how to help it, or he's going to end up being its host forever.
