Those words revealed a dangerous new reality to Luke, filled with monsters, magic, and opportunity.
When humanity reached its threshold of advancement, the omnipotent Company ascended Earth to the multiverse. The System’s realm changes all the rules, pantheons fight for control, and challenges offer real power.
Unfortunately, the Company's services are not free. Humanity is thrown into a brutal assessment on a derelict world, where only those strong enough to pay their debt will survive.
Unlike his coworkers, Luke embraces the System's changes, eager to leave his boring life as an office worker behind. Somehow, Luke finds that this perilous adventure might be what he was meant for all along.

- O. S. MarrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a familiar premise - a litrpg apocalypse that tears the MC from a mundane existence to one filled with danger, magic, and... mysterious corporate entities?
I absolutely love litrpg apocalypses, but even in the slew of such stories being released at the moment, Mark of the Shadow Lord stands out. It does the basics well -- a convincing setup, solid progression, and a great use of The System -- but it also builds on these solid foundations through an intriguing premise in the form of the Company.
It's of course early days at this stage, but already only 8 chapters in, I can see that this fiction has promise. The style feels effortless, not needing to rely on shock value or use of tropes simply for the sake of including them, and the story itself is already full of interesting plot threads. Similarly, I've not noticed any substantial grammar issues so far.
As for the characterisation, the MC is convincing and well-written, though of course it's currently too early to know what their character arc will look like. But I trust the author to deliver based on everything I've seen so far.
This is a great story so far, and if you (like me) are overwhelmed by the choice of apoc stories at the moment, you can't go too far wrong with this story. - DismusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Finished the book last night on kindle. Yeah the book has a lot of similarities to Primal Hunter but it's still a great book with more than enough differences to keep you wanting more. I came here looking for more chapters and was sad to see no more. Give it a try the book was worth the read.
- Khan of KhansRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is great. I really like the main character he is really interesting. The pacing is nice it isn't rushed or stretched just right. The story is well written and easy to read. The plot is eerily similar to PM at the beginning but it's brancing out. Really good though and i hope it continues. I am really enjoying this story. Overall it's 5 out of 5.
- NakithefaileRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written story with an interesting magic system, I usually don't ever leave reviews but this one is so good I have to share my opinion. If I could rate it 10 stars I would .
MC is a bit of but the stakes always feel real and he struggles and suffers to get stronger as needed. Again, I love everything about this - FlixyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5good pacing MC is pretty violent but not a murder hobo haven't really met many side characters but I think it'd be interesting for a sort of reference point to scale the MCs growth it'll be interesting to see where it goes give more loot I plan to keep up with this for quite a while
- NovitiateRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like it a lot. The fights are pretty fun, the system is good and (I think) well made. It's definitely worth checking out. I'm looking forward to how things will develop. I'm just writing words at this point. Just wanted to give my rating to support, because I enjoy the story.
- AmithystRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I love many elements this story has. I love stealth gameplay, I love system synergy and hard choices, and I love a MC that struggles and suffers!
His quest to be a solo adventurer because of his issues dealing with social interactions is something that feels very relatable as well. Since many side characters are varying shades of awful or idiotic it makes his choice very understandable.
The exposition on the drama with his ex slightly confusing. I understand him hating her, it is never explicitly stated but it seems like she was an abuser in that relationship. But her wanting to murder him right off the bat? Even if she is a raging psychopath it seems forced for the sake of conflict.
It make sense for a loner to be a rogue, and I like how his earth abilities are manifest in the system. Him being unremarkable to the point of his parents forgetting him is a bit funny and him getting the shadow powers because of that is a great irony. - SSvRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I think the book is pretty good, and yes, it does have some characteristics of Primal Hunter. It's an excellent book if you want to turn off your brain for some time and enjoy some skill-grinding. He has a standardized plot of special abilities granted by a force he does not know of—the same old scenario; I mean, it's literally in the book's name. I like the character interactions, but the main character seems a bit iffy (quite edgy and emo). Given that he has the right to feel this way regarding how people view him, it still feels like he dwells on it much. However, I am not in the character's shoes and cannot accurately represent how I would act in his scenario. It's still a great book, and I recommend reading it.
Edit: I came back and re-read it, it has gotten better, in my opinion. (Although there are a lot of cliches) - TheDragon_DarknessRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I like the book, it follows the progression and storyline that I love to see in Litrpgs with the tutorial style. The MC is likable and isn’t to violent, he seems to follow mostly rational though processes as well. I also truly enjoy the soloing.
However, the story seems to follow primal hunter very closely which isn’t necessarily a bad thing it’s just too similar for me to be entirely comfortable the MC
Gets a bloodline and then levels up a skill in almost an exact same way as in the Primal Hunter which just kinda threw me off.
Overall not a bad book and would recommend. - Voidbearer2kn24Royal Road★ 0.5Take everything that makes Primal Hunter good, tweak names and slightly alter plot points, but play with the psychopath knob like someone testing a dimmer light.
Edit: Another reader reached out to the author of Primal Hunter as they too noticed the copypasta aspects as well, and the authors are different... unlike the story.
