Great cover page btw.
I like the way the story it is written. I enjoy your writing style.
The grammar is great. I did not notice any spelling mistakes. The flow between the character dialogs is well written.
The overall theme is excellent.
I also like the way the story progresses.
You have created an unbelievable world. It is full of mysteries. I never know what monster or creature might turn up. There are great battle scenes which are written in great detail.
You have done an excellent job at creating Shades’ skill structure. The story has so much detail. It is interesting to discover Shades’ power with him as he gets stronger.
There is a good balance between story progression and epic battle scenes.
Shades is a great character. Although the story is quite serious, I do enjoy the humor between Shades and Mel. Adding Mel to the story changed everything from the beginning. I like the companionship between them. I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops.
I am at chapter 12 while writing this review and so far, I am enjoying the story.
Great work. Keep it up. Looking forward to the next chapters. - CandyAddictRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Spoiler-Free Review (as of ch. 12)
A solid start for a new author. The system, mechanics, and implementation are quite unique, with a lesser emphasis on Blue Boxes, and gives the story an edge over most other apocalypse LitRPG novels. However, a few small aspects are not explained too well and end up being a bit confusing.
Like most other apocalypse LitRPGs, there isn't really a story beyond getting stronger, but this one suffers more from it due to the lack of characters and their development. The style is solid, but feels like its lacking something to keep the reader drawn in and more invested in the characters.
There are no issues with the grammer. My overall score is based on my personal enjoyment when I read the story. - DnivieRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I've read to chapter 7.
As of ch 7-8 :The story feels abit rushed, the system seems like it will be an endless grind and the characters seem very boring and alittle dead(ok mel not so dead just annoying). The humor 'i think' you tried sadly also didn't feel like it worked out too well.
But that aside. Your grammar is Exelent and potential is also very promising. Though this is only my opinion. Please excuse me for my grammar, English is not my first language.(The things above may change over the course of the story but thus far i feel this story is between 3-4 though that might only be me thinking to much). - deathless.smileRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0[Reviewed @ Chapter 12]
Apocalyptic RPG stories can be found everywhere, and I must say that this story offers a slight alternative to the mainstream and popular fictions of the sort.
For a Royalroadl story, and as the author is a beginner, I feel that Shades Darkside deserves a 5 star rating. Sure, there may be a few bumps here and there, but everything is easily smoothed over and tweaked, and hardly noticable.
So far, the author's style is commendable, but not extremely amazing. The premise is very commonplace, but the author makes it a decent read, if not nice.
The plot is so-so, but you don't really read these types of story to psychoanalyze every character and spot Chekhov's guns do you? It is already a given that the main character has plot armor, however subtly interweaved it is in the story (it is not. Here, the main character is badass and fine, OP- but that, my friend is also a given).
The characters seem to have potential, but rapid development makes them also seem to be very cardboard-like (ehem, flat), but the story is only on its early stages and this can be tweaked. There are no overwhelming archetypes or cliche af characters though (other than the mc and his hot companion, a little).
Overall a nice read for fans of the genre, although (obviously, I think,) not for the hardcore readers.
